I get the same nerve pain from my hamstrings to my knees. No it’s not pain like pulling a muscle you can tell it’s a nerve pain.

I had my first episode in the last 12 days. Gosh... it's terrible! It seems that it touched all my nerves in my right leg from my hip all the way down to my knee. I still have a very hard time to walk. Feels like my leg is very weak. You don't want to have this at all costs! I don't even know if I'll ever be able to walk. Gosh this is scarry.
Google up herpetic neuralgia (PHN) or herpes neuropathy in the legs

Very doubtful the pain described is related to Herpes, but it is possible.

Herpes can and does cause leg pain of varying degrees.  It does not always coincide with an "outbreak" of blisters on the genitals, and if one knows they have Herpes and they are experiencing leg, buttocks, calf or foot pain, it usually means the virus is active and they may be able to easily pass the virus if they engage in sexual activity.

Patients with leg and buttocks pain from Herpes describe it in varying degrees. From a dull ache down the back of the leg, to sharp pain in the hamstring and calves that feels like the muscle is going to snap.  This pain sometimes seems to start in the Buttocks and shoot down the back of the leg.  Sometimes the pain can be unbearable and your doctor will prescribe medication that blocks or alters the way the body interprets pain, like the drug Neurontin or Cymbalta.  Other times Aspirin can take the edge off the pain.

It is theorized in some Herpes sufferers that the Herpes Virus either aggravates the Sciatic Nerve or causes an unknown co-breakout of Herpes Zoster (ChickenPox) that may aggravate the Sciatic Nerve. In these cases a course of Antivirals seems to ease the suffering. The theory here is that the Antivirals slow the virus down enough to allow the nerve to "rest" and the aggravation to subside. Many Herpes leg pain sufferers say that a course of Antivirals helps ease the pain considerably.  If one were to take a course of Antivirals when they are experiencing leg pain, and the pain subsides, this may be a good indication that they are suffering from Herpetic Neuralgia in the legs.

The only way to determine what you may be suffering from is to go to a qualified Doctor. A Neurologist or even an Infectious Disease Doctor may help you more than a GP.

Good luck.

After 2 months, what was your final test result, Was it negative or positive for HSV-1 or HSV-2?  I just want to know for my own self, because I have similar pain.  Its driving me nuts, because most posts are either agreeing or disagreeing against the leg pain.  Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

i am a man, so no.  the leg pain is on and off, mostly on the back of my legs and hamstrings.  my knees feel a little swollen, but i can't really tell.  the legs are more sore than painful, like i just worked out.  both legs, all over really.  the reason i wonder is because i had a red bump on my penis shaft and my groin was irritated and also a little swollen, but what makes no sense is that my penis is the only thing not hurting below my waist.  pretty confused.  got test but at three weeks....going back at 2 months

i did have a bump on genitals, but never blistered and seemed to go away, also, the leg pain started about a week ago.....had a negative test but may have been too early, just wondering what the pain in the legs is like so i may be able to judge it..

..as for pulling a muscle, i have been pretty worthless lately, so i doubt i pulled anything,.

The leg pain from herpes is associated with the swollen lymph nodes that are sometimes associated with an outbreak. Just having pains in the leg doesn't mean herpes.

Did you pull a muscle? Sounds more like a muscle strain than a herpes-related pain, but who knows? It varies so much.
