I Am 47 and have had HS for 24 yrs. I see a infectious disease doctor for the HS. I have gone through 9 surgeries and quite a bit of intravenous antibiotic treatment at the infusion center. The medication Vancomycin is use the most and is very strong but it is only temporary as any other medical procedures for HS.
From my own experience I have gone through years of pain, surgeries,  antibiotics and depression and I tell you it is not easy.
I have seen from time to time I have gone through a remission stage which was great.
my suggestion to anyone with HS is when the iching start or when it is triggered jump on it immediately before it spreads and get out of control. If you don't stay on top of it you risk the possibilities of getting cellulitis which cause high fevers, pain and itching hot skin and if not address immediately could poison your blood stream which is called Sepsis and sepsis can be life threatening if not address.
It is great to have supportive family and friend that can be comforting in your time of need.
This has been my life for many years and because of it I am unable to work. I receive Social Security Disability for my income.
I hope that my story could be of some help to anyone experiencing or know someone with HS.
It's a horrible not so recognized Disease but it can be somewhat managed.
I have faith that someday there will be a cure.
Good Luck and God Bless.

I see a dermatologist. Not sure why they would suggest a disease specialist. Its genetic. Maybe request a new Dr. I was taking pills every day and use a gel on my abscesses. I'm also 24. Have had this for years. Donno what you've done already before I had medication I stopped using deodorant and use antibacterial bar of soup.
