How do I address higher BP at work (but which is mostly normal at home)?

So I've always been an anxious guy...going back to when I was a teenager.  In fact, back in high school the school nurse freaked out as my BP was 140 / 95 once during a normal health check.  When I went to the doctor back then it was lower, but still around 130 / 85.  Since then I have been taking my readings at home off and on and they are generally in the 120-125 / 80-85 range, which I know is a bit elevated by today's guidelines but still not horrible.

Here's my dilemma and one that I plan on discussing with my doc next week.  Do I go on a BP med as my readings are higher when at work and under stress / anxious?  My readings at home have crept up over the years but still in the 120-125 / 80-85 range.

Anyone else address this with their doc before?

Thanks!

My dad 71, had gangrene on his left foot 4 years ago and had his leg amputated below the knee. 2 years later he got gangrene on his right foot, a few of his toes have fallen off and now it looks like it is slowly spreading up (he has blood sores going up his leg, right below his knee). He refused amputation. About a month and a half ago he had a heart attack. They did heart catheter and found that he had one artery 100% blocked & the others were st 90% & 80%. Doctors refused to give him surgery because of the high risk. I've felt so alone through this process, thank you for sharing your stories.

Mine was borderline high when I was in my late teens, and eventually I was put on a vasodilator (don’t recall the name) and later on a ACE inhibitor (lisinopril). Still on that one with little or no side effects after about 25 years of taking it.

I would err on the side of caution and ask about getting an Rx, the risks of high blood pressure are well documented and relatively easily avoided.

Thanks for the feedback.  My doc had me check my blood pressure at home frequently and it was generally in that same range 120-125 / 80-85, even lower on several occasions.  She put me on metoprolol since my elevated blood pressure seems to be anxiety / adrenaline related.  So far it seems to have lowered the peaks I was having.  I do find it makes me a take sleepy in the afternoon.
I recall now which Rx I was put on initially and it was Cardizem, which was not a vasodilator but rather a calcium channel blocker. For whatever reason I was switched to lisinopril and have been taking that since. I do not believe I had any noticeable side effects from the former Rx either.
