5-htp

Our dog is very excitable. We adopted her from a shelter.  We are working on training of course but I think she could use a little help for awhile to make training more effective.  What do you think about 5-htp?

Hello!

5 htp is a precursor to the neurotransmitter Serotonin, one of many neurotransmitters that help to regulate mood.  Therapeutically it can help mild anxiety so it would not hurt to try it for your dog’s anxiety problem.

Even better, you might try an over the counter anti-anxiety formula which contains additional supplements which work synergistically with 5 htp  and also contain GABA another important neurotransmitter that affects mood.   Please remember that neutraceuticals take time to work.  They become maximally effective over time (although you may see an immediate benefit).  If you don’t see an improvement after 3-4 weeks of continual use than it probably is not the correct formula for your dog’s problem.

A good anti-anxiety formulas is Pure Encapsulations brand, “Emotional Wellness”,  available online from the Pure Caps website: purecaps.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=EW1

Emotional Wellness contains 5htp, B6, l-tyrosine , GABA,  l-theanine,  Rhodiola and Passion flower.  This combination helps alleviate stress, promote relaxation and helps with anxiety.
