Abnormal pap smear

Hey guys.
So I am 22 years old and just had my first PAP smear a few months ago. (stupid, I know.) Anyway, it came back abnormal! I had a low-grade squamous epithelial lesion. My gyno assured me this is fairly common, especially among young women, and had me go back for a colposcopy. He took a tiny sample of tissue for biopsy and the results came back as "no significant changes." He told me this was great news and that I just have to go back for a repeat pap smear in 6 months (which would now be in september.) I am still really worried though... I don't want to get cervical cancer and I am just constantly worried!! Has anyone ever been in the same situation as me?? Any words of advice? I have also read that taking antioxidant supplements and vitamin B12 supplements and iron will help with reducing cell dysplasia such as mine. Any thoughts?

Your doctor is right, it is very common and is great news that there were no significant changes. Most doctors don't treat low grade changes because it is so insignificant and a lot of the times goes away on it's own. The repeat pap will see if the changes have went from low grade to high grade, and if they have then treatment will be done. But don't worry even when changes are high grade, as long as you monitor progress and do the advised treatment then it will not amount to anything.

Also, taking those supplements will help you, because the immune system can attack the HPV virus and make it lay dormant. So keeping healthy in all areas of life i.e getting lots of sleep, eating well, excersizing and taking supplements will definitely benefit you.

And please don't be scared, you are going to be okay and you are doing all the right things it seems. Stress and worry will only aggravate the HPV virus which is the last thing you need, so sit back and relax and carry on doing what your doing.
