Genital Warts Reappear After 2 Years And 5 Months :(

hello, I really need to talk to someone. I have been living with HPV since 2010. it's been 7 and half years. In the first 4 years I have never really "suppressed" the virus. every time my doctor burned the wart with some liquid, it always reappeared 3-6 months later. At that time I felt disheartened because many people said that our antibody should be able to suppress the virus within 2 years but it didnt happen to me. The good thing is that whenever my genital warts reappeared, they were always very small and it was never more than 3 warts.

Then after my doctor burned my warts in August 2015, finally I could break the "3-6 months" interval. I never had any other wart until today...so it has been 2 years and 5 months since the last time I had genital warts but finally they showed up again. only 2 warts this time and yes they were also very small. I suspected them so I went to my doctor again and he said "yes they are warts" so he burned them again. I feel "broken" again because all the theories that I read on internet seem to be different from my situation

I've read countless articles about HPV. people say that if you do not get any wart recurrence within 12 months, that means you are clean. but I've been living wart-free in 2 years and 5 months and yet it reappeared again today...what does it mean? Does it mean my antibody is bad? and no, before someone says that i might get infected again, I'm 100% sure i wasn't infected again. I never had sex with anyone since 2012 so I'm pretty sure this is not a new HPV strain that infected my body.

Interesting well if it comes back in 2 years 3 years or if it’s  reoccurring  Your probably getting re infected.

Hi I’m not sure if this thread is still active, but do you have any gene mutations, I have health problems which I always thought were normal, jaw clicking, tounge tie but never had any talking issues, the worst digestive system, back troubles. I’m in a healthy weight gain(weigh 52kilo) I’m young and active lifestyle, don’t drink or smoke. Yet I always get sick and skin problems like dermitits, eczema, hay fever and acne. I drink tone of water, take probiotics, vit c, garlic supplements. I have high risk hpv for a long time but cleared it after 5 years. Then after a rape I was confirmed high risk hpv pos again this year(rape was last year without protection) I have symtpoms down there which I never had before like itching and burning. Obvs there’s no way for me to pin point when I got this hpv, but my doc thinks it’s a new strain and I’ve only been with one man in six years besides the unwanted contact last year. I feel pissed I’ve been exposed to a new strain. All my tests for other infections come back neg so I did worry warts is causing the symtpoms but so far the only bumps doc say are papules. Anyway turns out I have mthfr gene- not the bad one but I think it contributes to my crap immune system. I suspect it is causing thyroid problems too and effecting how my whole body functions. I still need to be tested for my thyroid levels. Sorry for going on but it may be due to an auto immune problem/ disease. Could be as simple as your thyroid not working well and causing your body to be constantly working over drive and hence why the persistent infection with hpv. I hope to clear mine some day too and hope to not have lesions and cancer one day but all we can do is have hope. There should be more testing for men and better treatments or better yet a cure by now. There are scientists crispr(sorry forgot how it spelt) currently running trials to find cures and managements for all types of virus and disease so hopefully one day in ten years or so there will be better understanding and treatment for low and high risk hpv. Unfortunately more money is spent on cosmetics these days. How are you going now I’m 2018? Do you still get recurrence? Take care

Here is the quote from dr handsfield - even more reason to go and get them biopsied - do not threat about penile cancer though as he says it can be treated easily without any side effects at all - they just remove the lesions - penis would be fully recovered.

Welcome to the STD forum.  I'll try to help.

My main response is that I am skeptical that you still have warts.  When wart-like bumps persist for more than several months, and certainly when they do so for years, usually there is no longer an active HPV infection or actual warts, but scar tissue only.  Since your warts apparently have been professionally diagnosed, perhaps that's exactly what you have. However, if you have not been evaluated by a highly experienced clinician in such matters, such as a dermatologist, that would be wise.  Equally important, in this situation sometimes warts are actually precancerous lesions and should be diagnosed by biopsy.

Otherwise, I have no advice except to keep trying different treatments (freezing, cautery, podophyllin [or podofilox/Condylox], etc); sometimes warts respond just fine to alternating therapies.  There is no immune boosting precedures that is know to help.

Best wishes and good luck with it -- HHH, MD

I would get them biopsied - dr Hook says on another post that in their experience a recurrence after 6 months is either a new infection (which you say isn't possible - only you know this) or your doctor is mistaken about the warts. Dr Handsfield says to someone similar to you it is extremely rare for genital warts to last longer than 2 years and unusual recurrences they usually send to a dermatologist for biopsy to be 100% sure. Worth it in my opinion to rule out something that could be completely natural. Especially if they a very small, they could be bumps that are completely normal. Below is the quote i mention. People telling you stress brings about a recurrence isn't correct - that's what happens in Herpes as the antibodies cannot suppress herpes as it receeds to the spine through nerve endings (HPV can't do this), so being stressed isn't going to lead to a recurrence. Anyway i've posted the quote from dr hook below:

"I'll address your questions below but before I do, a comment or two.  Was the diagnosis of warts verified by a dermatologist?  I don't mean to challenge your doctor but warts in the pubic hair area are quite unusual, as is recurrence after a period of years.  Rather than recurrence after more than 3-6 months, in our experience, folks have either been mistaken about the warts (there are many things which can mimic warts) or have been reinfected.  Now on to your questions:

1.  See above, this is unusual, and if they have recurred in the same place after such a long time, I would worry that this are not warts but some other dermatological process.  Sometimes the diagnosis can be difficult an there are many other dermatologic processes which can mimic warts.   "

Were you recently sick with the flu?  Did you stress your body by getting little sleep and working too hard? Are you a cig smoker? Big drinker?

Some people do get them over and over again. There is no logical reason why but some think that people who have health issues (ex: pregnancy is one of these issues), lower their immune system so much that the virus returns you to be infectious again.

The term clearance just means you are not infectious at this time. The virus never leaves the body. Smokers have a tough time staying wart-free. So do drinkers and unhealthy people.

anyway i just want to add additional info. basically my doctor told me that it's possible for someone to not have any wart recurrence for 2 years but suddenly the warts reappear again later. he wasn't surprised to hear my story (about warts didnt reappear after 2 years and 5 months but then today it reappeared again).

But please, is it actually a good sign or a bad sign? I have like two conflicting mindset in my brain right now

I see it as a positive sign because prior to 2015 i never had such a long time interval between warts recurrence. they always reappeared after 3-8 months...but from august 2015 i set a personal record for myself. Does it mean the next wart recurrence would be 2-3 years from now?

but at the same time I feel like it's a negative sign as well. the virus "slept" for 2 years and 4-5 months but now it wakes up again. what does it mean? any theory?

Try Vidarox. I’ve had persisting wart for years. I finally found vidarox and I’m seeing a difference. Read the reviews. It could be your answer without a doctor.
