HPV-related Inquiry

Hi there,

Lately, a couple of months post the encounter I've noticed what seem to be warts in the genital area.
I went to an urologist for a diagnose and he told me they might've been skin appendages, he wasn't sure.
The director of the lap suggested the idea of taking a sample and testing it (HPV test) and to be sent to Germany, this procedure costs 400 $ and 12 days until the results are accomplished just to tell whether it is caused by HPV or not.
I went back to my doctor to see what he thinks because I didn't think it was a wise decision to make. So, he prescribed me ointment "Zovirax" saying although it is used for herpes infections, it can be also used for warts to get rid of the warts and the virus itself!
The medicine also includes "Zithromax" tablets, and that both of them (the ointment and tablets) ought to be used for 6 days before seeing the doctor again for further investigations/help.
I'm not certain if there is progress.

Any commentary is appreciated.
Thanks.

Well if they werent warts they wouldn't of reacted so well to treatment, it just indicates that they are warts.

You should not transmit the virus onto future partners (considering you say you will not have any sexual contact for the next 4-5 years). After 6 months - 2 years of no symptoms, Doctors advise that you should assume you have cleared yourself of the virus, as the majority never experience symptoms again, you should fall into that category considering you have a strong immune system etc. They also suggest as the odds of the virus popping up again after so long is so rare, that you do not have to disclose this information, however that is a personal choice.

Masturbation will not effect the virus.

Also cancer and warts are unrelated so no need to worry about that. It is the high risk HPV (warts are low risk) which are linked with cancer, and even cancer coming from a high risk strain is rare. It usually happens over many years, where symptoms go unnoticed.

9 months is a long enough time to consider the results conclusive, however I only really deal with HPV questions so if you want to post in the HIV, syphilis forums etc please feel free.

Just to add - visual diagnosis with the naked eye is the usual protocol when diagnosing warts. Any solutions or biopsies are only used when unusual looking warts are present leaving the doctor unsure. The majority of people will just be diagnosed by a doctor looking at the infected area.

I forgot to mention that my doctor did not apply any sort of solution to make the warts more visible, he just looked at them with a naked eye and began burning them.

By the way, I have a strong immune system, strong enough that I can not remember the last time I got sick. I also do not smoke or drink, and I eat a very healthy diet everyday.
So again, considering I have HPV, will my immune system eradicate the virus eventually?
Should I inform my future wife (4-5 years from now) about my history?
One more thing, does masturbation effects me negatively, like distributing the warts/virus or something all over the genital area although the warts are gone?

The doctor burned (whatever they might've been) off, and I later on applied the ointments on the same zones to heal the sores caused by the "burning".
Anything can be burned and have some sort of creams applied on, does that necessarily mean that they were in fact warts?
Pardon me, but I don't think you really realize how shocked I am.
It was a CSW, and I only started to read about the world of STDs since this encounter. I was a total celibate @ my 30's.
I will not have sex again until the day of marriage (it's not even something I choose), I'll be waiting for my presumptive wife a roughly 4-5 years from now and she's certainly gonna be a total virgin. (I'm completely subject to
social norms differ from those in the west or elsewhere).
Am I gonna put her at risk of contracting warts/cancer?
Lastly,
Can the tests I mentioned earlier be considered conclusive?
Thanks.

If things have improved then thats an indication they are warts. If they were they wouldn't respond well or even respond at all to the treatment.

Also I can understand your shock, there is a sterotype that only people who have unprotected sex with a lot of partners get things like HPV. In reality, everybody from all walks of life have the virus. Many people posting on this site get the virus from a first time encounter, protected, just like you! It is very upsetting but very possible. The condom doesn't cover all of the infected area and as it is a skin disease passing the virus on can happen.

You will probably have one or two. Once you go 6 months - 2 years without symptoms you can assume your body has cleared itself of the virus. The virus lays dormant and undetectable and only very rarely comes back years later. Most people engage in protected sex until they have gone 2 years without symptoms (as at this stage, 90% of people would have cleared the virus and not experience warts again).

Hi again,
Thanks for the reply.

I don't know if you're reading this but here is what I have to say and long story short:
I don't know if I'm allergic to latex, anyhow I was redirected to a dermatologist and he diagnosed me with warts (viral) and said there's no need to do some kind of test to determine so because the symptoms are enough to draw this conclusion and asked me to go to the lap to do the following tests:
1- Syphilis.
2- HIV/AIDS.
3- Hepatitis B, C.
All came back negative. The encounter was 9 months ago at least, can these test be considered conclusive/reliable?
As for the warts, I was treated (The doctor removed/burned them and prescribed to me "Antiseptic solution , ointment , ointment  for the treatment of burns".
I started using them and things have gotten better so far.
I just can not believe I caught them from the very 1st sex in my life (with the an entirely successful use of condom)!
My question is: Supposedly these were really warts caused by HPV as the doctor said, am I going to have recurrences? Will the virus stay dormant/contagious for lifetime or will it be cleared out within 1-2 years maximum as most sources suggest?

Thanks in advance.

They are usually used for herpes infections but can also be used for warts in some cases. Follow through with this process as the Doctor advised, maybe they want to see if the medication affects the 'warts' as if it did, it would indicate it was infact a genital wart infection. If there is no progress it may be that it is not genital warts and they may then give you different options for medication for different medical problems.

Latex condoms can cause allergies, so your symptoms may be a side effect of that, or a number of other issues unrelated to HPV

Some people are allergic to latex, are you?  Never heard of Zovirax being used against HPV and so his recommendation is shocking as it is mostly a herpes fighting drug. Zithromax is prescribed here in the US for fighting colds but it is also used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. Let us know how this impacts you but I seriously doubt it will cure you.

In addition to that, is it possible that latex condoms cause some kind of allergies for some people? if so, then is it possible that these symptoms are caused by it?
