Oxy-fend and Pregnancy

So, if you read my previous questions, you will know I'm 32 weeks pregnant and still suffering from a flare up of genital warts. I'm hearing a lot about this new "Oxy-fend" but it seems there isn't much research on it when it comes to pregnancy. Does anybody "really" know about this?? I know you aren't supposed to go overboard with salicylic acid...???

Sorry to hear that but it just takes time, even though it is frustrating. Your hormones are raging. The warts will calm down. But don't buy into some of these scams. They prey on people wanting a quick fix. However the quick fix does not work. It is really important to only take Dr. prescribed medication. Your OB is the expert and he will know what crosses the placenta barrier. You don't want to take anything that will harm your baby. If you are really uncomfortable and the medication is not working try to bump up your Dr.'s appointment and explain to them what is going on. You don't have to suffer in silence. If the acid treatment is not working for you, you might want to ask about cryo or laser or just maybe they need to be left alone for awhile and you need to get something else topical to relieve the discomfort. There are other options. Hope this helps.

Thanks HollyV...I had one acid treatment and it just seems like they got worse, (inflammed and itchy), now I feel like they are spreading. I have another acid treatment scheduled for next week-in the meantime, my doctor (obgyn) prescribed Pramasone (anti-itch, anti-inflammatory) to put on 3-4 times daily to relieve the discomfort. It worked at first, but now I feel like they are just multiplying. :(

HPV is a virus and does not usually respond to anything, it clears with your immune system. Cryo can freeze the warts and laser can burn in an attempt to remove them, sometimes it works but often they come back until the virus runs its course. The product that you are talking about from a very limited search I did appears to be promising things that it can't deliver. First the headquarters is in Australia with no address or phone number in the US. There was a person on this site today Jonnysniper that appears was trying to sell it because he did not even talk intelligently about HPV. From what I read this should not be used when you are pregnant, it does contain salicylic acid (When you are pregnant you should never take anything that your Dr. does not know about).

I copied this from the site...

"Clearance rates of at least 50 percent were seen in roughly three-quarters of patients who applied catechins ointment compared with 51 percent of those who applied the inactive ointment." I will point out what is not usually in research papers--"roughly three-quarters of patients"--the word roughly would not be used. This appears to be trying to inflate results. And clearance in 50% of 3/4 of patients—What happened to the other quarter!!

It appears there is a 50/50 chance or less of this product working compared to a 50/50 chance of those that applied an ointment without the active ingredients in this product. So it would appear if you used nothing, then you have a 50% chance of clearing HPV the same as if you used this product.

And then quoted from their site "Most side effects reported with catechins ointment were mild to moderate skin and application site reactions." Do you really want to have a skin reaction at the site that causes irritation and inflammation around the warts?? This could be painful.

Dr. Shallenberger that is quoted on the web for this product has been disciplined by the California and Nevada Board of Medical Examiners.

This is not an FDA approved product; some of the ingredients in it are FDA approved…
I am not always on the side of the FDA but in this case, the company is using words that indicate it is FDA approved when it’s not in order to make their product appear credible.
I could go on and on but this appears to be a product where they try to do fancy marketing to sell their product for money with very little benefit for the person buying it.

Your hormones are a little over loaded because you are pregnant and it may take a little longer for the warts to disappear--but they will. Bottom line, pregnant women or breastfeeding women should never use anything without the knowledge of their physician.
