Re-infection with high risk HPV

Well,
Today I went to see an experienced gynecologist and I asked him about having sex in a monogomous relationship (when both of us have the same strains of the virus, because we have been together for about three years now). I asked him if we could have unprotected sex when knowing that the virus is in its latent state, and he said that we should always practice sex with condoms... I was so confused. Has anyone encountered a situation like this ???

I guess my question is: does having oral HPV and genital HPV mean that these are the same strains and (because I assume the strains are the same) and can we get reinfected? Bottom line: when the virus is off the radar regarding genital area, does it mean it is off the radar regarding oral HPV?

Oral HPV is always possible but it is more difficult to spread it than genital HPV.  There are some dentists that have special lights or fluids that you swoosh in your mouth to determine if you have it. If you do have it, there is no cure for it and am not sure what stopping oral sex would do.

I was confused by his advice...
so from that question another poses:
What about oral HPV , can it be somewhat of a threat, because I assume, (because we also practice oral sex,) that we have it. I am so confused right now.... -.-

Your GYN is nuts.  Since you two share the same strain, safe sex is not required. You cannot ping pong the same strain to each other. More importantly, since condoms are maybe 50-75% effective, what will you prevent?  I can see wearing a condom if one of you have warts but the high risk don't produce warts. Get another GYN or ignore his advice as it makes no sense. If you don't believe me, post the same question on the Doctors Forum and expect to get the same advice as I am giving.
