No there are not tests and the typical case is that your immune system will supress the strain without issue. If you know that you have been sexually active with someone who has an active strain then you have two actions you should take. The first is to get your yearly medical and dental exams (if you have symptoms, sooner) and use protection when being sexually active with a new partner until you know it is safe. With men this is difficult to determine if you can transmit and docs would say don't worry about it at all because HPV's are so common that almost all sexually active adults with have strains in their lifetime. Regardless of the less common medical issues HPV's are basically skin conditions. Do not get caught up in all the fear based info online. The reasons people have serious medical issues are because they have other medical issues such as low immune systems, they are long time smokers or/and drinkers, they disregard their health and ignore symptoms not getting yearly exams that might catch something early and then get the procedures to prevent those bad cells becoming actual cancers. HPV cancers are usually slow and it takes years for them to become life threatening. Sure there might be a very uncommon case here or there, more in women than men where it progresses sooner but even then any I know of personally have been able to treat without loss of life.

Are you fine? Do you have HPV? These strains can go dormant. You need to relax on this whole issue. I don't mean to sound rude, but it seems like you UK guys blow all of this out of proportion. If you have a doctor, talk with him.
