Hi- My doctor told me that the latest school of thought is women need estrogen replacement only. He said this actually reduces breast cancer risks and tends to make heart healthier. the estrogen-progesterone combo is now thought to increase breast cancer risks and be unhealthy for the female heart.
I had my tubes and ovaries out last Thursday, and personally I plan on not taking any hormones unless I develop symptoms i can not deal with.
I am going to increase my calcium though, both with a supplement and in diet.My doctor says menopause medically induced or otherwise weakens your bones and i already have arthritis so it cant hurt.
as far as anxiety there are lots of things you can do, personally i take xanax only when i need it and it works for me. Exersise. meditation, chiropractors, threrapy work for others, so please don't think hormones is your only option. Middle age women seem to be very prone to anxiety and depression.
Feel better--God Bless,

Cherie, I don't know your age but I thought the same way.......Don't.  Osteoporosis will come and calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin K, and boron are not enough.  I had osteopenia in 2009 and -3.7 osteoporosis in 2014.  I took vitamins all my life and started Damiana, Kava Kava, etc. when menopause started in 2002.  If I could do it over, I would take the HRT.  BUT...now they are realizing that you can be on an ultra low dose estrogen and it works great on the bones AND menopause symptoms.  The ultra low dose is 0.014 mg (14 mcg.).  You can cut a Vivelle Dot in half and have the exact dose. (They are approved to be cut since the patch is scored).  I hope this helps:

****I should have said this.....you can cut a Vivelle Dot of .025 mg in half to get the 'ulta low dose'.

you can get OTC creams - they just have less of a %.   I see an acupuncturist and he put me on a cream that is not RX compound and it's working.
He felt I was estrogen dominant.  I had a complete hysto. back in 84 and have only been on estrogen.  Vivelle dot .05mg.  Then I got anxiety - bad daily anxiety.  After adding the progesterone,  I'm seeing a big difference already - for the better.
