hi, i have  large dermoid cyst of 12.3x 8.3 cm on  the  right ovary .but the both ovaries are normal size  amd im  married  from 7 months & yet i haven't child .im planning to pregnancy .must I do surgery? is this cyst affect the ovulation & fertilization

I cant imagine how you musta felt...the docs insisting it was eptopic and , you were a virgin,,,,you would think they woulda noticed intact hymen...musta been a little embarassing !!!!thats quite a bit for a young girl to go through,,,glad you are ok now,

these are really intersting cysts kinda strange to think of hair or teeth growing in a cyst huh?  Mamatuck you story is really great, what a blessing that you got to have your children.Liuma has a good chance as I understand these tumors are alomost always begine, I have heard the retained twin theory I think it does make some sense , but I am almost certain( not 100%) but I dont think that has been proven as of yet, ,,,it is very very importaint with any ovarian cyst,,but especially this kind as they tend to twist( this is called torsion) that if you feel extreame pain from the cyst you go to the er...it is possible for just the cyst to rupture, it is also possible for the effected ovary to rupture..so when in doubt please always err on the side of saftey.

I had a dermoid my Sr. year of high school - at the time (24years ago), my GYN and nurses hadn't seen these type cysts before and I kept insisting I was having an ectopic pregnancy - when I vehemently assured them that wasn't possible (hadn't had sex yet) - they did more research and found dermoid to be answer.  I had surgery to remove dermoid cyst only - left ovary.  While inside, they saw a huge cyst (can't recall name - common and benign) on right ovary.  My GYN excised the bad/cyst tissue from each ovary - kind of like split open the ovary, carved out the cysts, etc - my dermoid was 4 baby teeth, hair and fat.  After they had excised the bad tissue, they sewed the ovaries back together.  I am very happy to report, it did not affect my fertility at all - i went on pill for a few years while active and then when married.  When my husband and I decided to have a baby, I went off pill and was pregnant within 3 months!  So, don't loose faith.  Talk to your GYN/Surgeon - fertility can be retained!  I am proof.  However, I must tell you that I don't know if it was the whole dermoid thing - that being the first hormonal issue - but after the birth of my baby boy in 1999, I had a huge benign cyst develop on my left ovary (same side as the dermoid in 1985).  The cyst was removed, but it had caused such damage - huge and had wrapped around my ureter and then all that was plastered to my left pelvic sidewall.  So, I did have to have a total hysterectomy in 2003.  However, that was probably just my dumb luck - I tell you so you can watch in years to come for any problems - get help right away - I didn't, just thought I had adhesions from '85 surgery and didn't get help until it was too late in 2003.  Best wishes on your future mommyhood and resolution to your dermoid.  All though the explanation given by Cherie762 sounds scientifc, I'm not saying it's wrong at all, I don't know - I have also been told by subsequent Dr's I have seen that this was a retained twin from when I was conceived.  So, who knows = but thought it was an interesting side note.  Good luck!

this condition has too many factors for me to give you an educated opinion about fertility..I would suggest,,,you first deal with you present condition, consulty you regular gyn about wanting children,,,see how they want to treat you , and then seek a fertility specialist if needed....best wishe, and dont give up hope for a child...I dont know this for a fact because your anatomy is currently different, and all cysts are different,,,I would guess that yes it is affecting your ovulation....If your cyst ever.twists( torsion) you will know its quite painful get to er asap if that happens.....
