I'm all about saving a buck or two...

I like this! I'm always looking for the best deal in town and on the internet. I'll have to take a look at some of my links and get back to you guys... anybody have something in particular they are looking for?
If you hate to purchase programs that always need updating because they need security fixes, no names but we know what this is, then you may want to check out Linux.org. It's a FREE open source operating system that rocks to the high heavens. You get all the functionality as your current one, but without all the viruses and malware issues. Plus, there are a ton of other FREE programs that you can find at OpenSource.org.
If you have kids or are just a kid like me, then you definitely need to get ahold of Tux Paint. Remember to download the stamps as well. You will have so many options for making stuff like cards, scrap book things etc. Plus you can just play and then erase! It's sort of like having an easel on your computer. Kids love it because the little Linux Penquin, the mascot, gives you thumbs up, good job, that's cool, and other positive affirmations as you color and stamp away while making your master piece.
You can download the windows program or just go complete Linux. But that may take some additional help from a techy unless you know how to partition a hard drive. I can help you with it, but that'll cost you... hee hee.. just kidding. I'd be more than happy to help out anyone who would like to take the plunge with Linux. The neat thing is, you can run Linux off of a CD or a flash drive and keep your current computer just the way it is... more on that later if you are interested. Just send me an email or take a gander at the Linux.org site and search for Ubuntu. It's the latest greatest desk top environment for home users. It's simple and uncomplicated and that's not just me saying so from a techy point of view. I've turned on several of my customers to it and they are happy, happy, happy as a clam!
I'll be back with more freebies as time goes on... Cheers!

It's amazing at how many things you can find at rummage sales as well. When kids out grow their games, parents will drop them off at these types of events so that the kids don't know about it. I got a leap frog portable game for my neice this way... If I was to have gotten one for her brand new, it would have been about $300 by the time I bought all the little game cards that came with it... I'm amazed at times as to what parents will get rid of instead of taking the time to put them on Ebay. I think for most people, Ebay or Craigs list is very difficult for some people to maneuver to put things up to sell. Good thing for me as I've gotten things that I can put up there and make money on!
So start checking out the papers for yard sales and rummage sales. It's a fun game of adventure and shopping all at the same time. Take a Friday morning or Saturday morning and plot out on a map where you want to go according to the addresses. Be ready to start really early if you want to get the best stuff. Good garage salers are the early birds. Mostly because most people don't have prices on things yet and so they are more willing to give it to you cheap just to get rid of it right away. So have fun and make a family day of it. Provide your kids with bags that you can't see through so that they can get gifts for you too and you won't know what it is... Also, put a boundary of how much money you are going to spend either on an item to item basis, or a day total so that you don't over spend. For kids, it's usually around $5 for the day unless they see something that is bigger. Most things cost around twenty five cents to fifty cents, but there are the $1's that add up too.
Happy hunting!

Wow Thanks centwiz thats great ....this is what I hoped we can help each other, theres some nasty times up ahead ,with the Christmas time and Hannuka coming up it will be tough for a lot of parents to come up with the usual gifts, now I know we can and will explain to our children that this year we are cutting back, its still nice to be more economical, you know those computer games cost a ton, so maybe its a great time to get board games going again,I have found children love em once they are motivated ,most the yards sales have games and books and really good stuff in good condition . hey it'll be time to have one of your own..
