Am I the only one who won't vaccinate my baby?

I am having my first! I'm due on Christmas Eve (poor baby).
My husband and I have different views on delivery and care of baby...
I was born at home along with all my siblings. I have never been vacinated, and I don't want to vacinate my children.
My husband was married before, and he has two wonderful kids. They were born in a hospital (one was a c sec) and have been fully vacinated religiously by their mom (they are her kids, she can if she wants). My step kids are always fighting something. During colder months they are always sick.

I don't understand why people break down their nature immune system by putting, what I consider poison (vaccines, antibiotics ect.) ,  into their bodies. We live in a country that allows us running water, heat, refrigeration, sanitation, and medical if needed. On the vaccine pro site it states the side effects that can occur from taking vaccines.  I won't go into detail, I think people should educate themselves rather than follow me, or their doctors, blindly.

Am I the only person who feels this way?

It's a personal decision for everyone to make, but for me, personally, I will absolutely be vaccinating.  So much of the evidence for not vaccinating that I have personally heard is anecdotal, yet I have never met a single person who has had a negative experience.  On top of that, a 1 in 14,000 odd is actually considerable better than any of the things I realistically worry about for my future child.  I have been vaccinated my entire life, including boosters as an adult, and I cannot imagine risking the well-being of my helpless child by NOT vaccinating them.  Again, I understand that it is a personal choice, and this is just my opinion.  =D

I grew up thinking that modern day medicine was the only way to go. until I married my husband and my mother in law is a naturalist. which is no big deal its her lifestyle her choice. when I was expecting my first we decided not to immunize him. after he was 6 months old I decided that he did need shots. only because I did not know how to care for my baby if he were to get sick from not getting shots. and that is the only reason we choose to vaccine it's because I don't know how to care for my children if they were to get serious ill. There is a time and place for modern day medicine and a place for the natural way of life its up to you and your family to decide were that line is.

This is THE pro site... and these are from the DTap vaccine. 1 in 14000 doesn't out way to the sickness for the side effects. I won't take that chance of being the 1 in 14000 parent knowing this was a side effect and did it anyway.

  http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/side-effects.htm

Moderate Problems (Uncommon)
Seizure (jerking or staring) (about 1 child out of 14,000)
Non-stop crying, for 3 hours or more (up to about 1 child out of 1,000)
High fever, 105 degrees Fahrenheit or higher (about 1 child out of 16,000)
Severe Problems (Very Rare)
Serious allergic reaction (less than 1 out of a million doses) Several other severe problems have been reported after DTaP vaccine. These include:
Long-term seizures, coma, or lowered consciousness
Permanent brain damage.
These are so rare it is hard to tell if they are caused by the vaccine.

Let's not turn this into another battle, ladies, please. Everyone is stating opinions and I think it's starting to get a little out of hand. Some may see this as a bit pushy so.... simmer down, yeh? :) We don't need any hurt feelings this morning.

I don't need to be attacked, I have studied this subject many times. I was trying to find common thinkers so that I would have to have arguments with women who have their own (their doctor's) opinion.  There are plenty of sites with parents from all over speaking about the changes that happen to their children after certain shots. I ran into a lady a couple months ago who had two daughters on misssions. They didn't vaccinate anymore because her youngest stopped looking people in the eye and speaking after a shot. One of her daughters felt pressured by her companion to receive the flu vaccine. This daughter had to come home early because "all of the sudden" she had a seizure disorder.

My sister is 30, my brother 28, I am 26. Never been vaccinated. Went to public schools in California,  Washington and Utah. Before booster shots, everyone thought you only needed one shot your entire life. Truth is, most vaccines need boosters within ten years.  That means during baby boomers era less than 50% of our country were not vaccinated.

I respect you for your decision.  I agree with the meds...making you sicker....my son was perfectly fine....for months....until he got shots.     I dont want to continue doing them.....but i dont know if it is too late.  He is 15 months. Plus...everywhere requires shot records......for your kids....so what do i do?????

Baboes cannot get vaccinations until they are a few.months old. It is the herd immunity, all the people around them having vaccines, that keep them safe. I will be breast feeding so my baby gets my immunities and will be vaccinating. It is not worth the risk for me not to vaccinate and that is even with maybe homeschooling since I am a certified teacher.

The loss of herd immunity is putting everyone at risk. I have friends with cancer, while they are getting chemo, i don't want them to get measles!

You cannot spread whooping cough through vaccination. That is a bogus study and has not been proven. The pertussis vaccine uses only part of a bacteria. You cannot spread a disease without a whole, live bacteria (which no vaccines contain). Without a whole bacteria there is no possibility of disease

I will vaccinate my baby since I don't want to risk my baby's life. Natural immunity is good, but not sufficient to prevent your baby from complications. They can cause permanent disabilities and even death. Better to be safe than sorry!

Not here at these schools, it's either in or out.. no exemption form. They can't make us vaccinate but they don't have to allow the child in the school either. That's why the anti-vaxxers around here home school. I don't mind it.... there are a few big ones that I would to get just in case which are all required by the public school system anyway. :) I never follow anything blindly and am fully aware of my states laws and what I am able to get done in my area. No worries. :)

Did you know: children who receive the whooping cough vaccine are now carriers and even though they may not get sick, now others around them can. Maybe we are keeping these illnesses around by continuing to vaccinate.

Thank you both for your views and comments. I just want KieaRai to know that it is completely against the law to force anyone to vacinate.  All you have to do is sign an exempt form for your child. I have never been vacinated,  I went to preschool,  elementary, middle school and high school. Don't follow anything blindly! Good luck.

I'll be fully vaccinating my child. Vaccine preventable illnesses are on the rise, there were 30 infant deaths from whooping cough in my state in the past year.
You were very lucky you didn't get a serious illness as a child. But outloook for unvaccinated children currently is reall not good. Along with whooping cough there is also a huge measles outbreak, children have been dying.

I feel it is not worth the risk, the side effects from the vaccines are minscule compared with suffering through measles or whooping cough. Tetnius causes muscles spasms strong enough to break bones, i never want my child to experence that.

I never want my child to be sick or have to take anti-biotics, buy if they have a strep infection i will give anti-biotics, as it is a better option than the next stage of strep - heart valve thickening which resuelts in congestive heart failure if not surgically corrected.

That is my opinion

Never had the chicken pox vaccine* to clarify... I ended up with chicken pox twice as a kid, once at 3 and again at 11. It was never bad in our area though and I believe a natural immunity to that is better than pumping my kid full of something she doesn't need.

Not at all. I've read too many books, and I know two people who were affected by bad batches. Pro vaccine people think that we haven't done our research or that we take a bloggers word for it. You can find research to support any theory you have. So really it comes down to personal choice. My family doesn't vaccinate for religious purposes, but it is also a personal belief based on my own research. Anyway, this thread will blow up shortly so this is all I will say about it. You aren't alone.

There are some vaccines that my husband and I agree are pretty useless... like here they want to give kids the chicken pox vaccine. We never had it and when kids got sick at my school our parents usually got us alm together so everyone would get it and be done. There are a few that we will be getting and there are some that are required in order to send our kid to school but that's about all we'll be getting. I've seem some vaccines work and others that just made people sicker. Flu vaccine always lands me in the hospital bc I end up getting the flu from it. My doc didn't believe me and made me get it anyway and I almost lost my baby earlyn pregnancy bc of it. My hubby only ever gets a day of sniffles though. I was vaccinated with a bit as a kid and have never been sick but i also grew up on a farm and have been exposed to just about everything. I have friends who don't vaccinate and I'm perfectly fine with that and as long as they don't push their anti-vax beliefs on me I don't say anything to them. :)
