Removing posts

Hi,
I don't understand why one cannot remove their own posts? I have heard it is believed you say it's for others'.!?? However you need to allow people to remove their posts for whatever reason. This isn't a dictatorship is it? Members ought to be allowed to control their own profiles and posts without this nonsense.

So what's the deal please? Seems a bit authoritarian to me regardless of your stance. We are people looking for help. I feel degraded that I can't remove my post without asking for permission.

Thank you for your response.

The best thing to do in that situation is just add a clarifying post afterward.  I think we all get bitten by autocorrect and typos at one time or another.   If something comes out terribly wrong, you can always contact a moderator and we'll be happy to help edit or remove if needed.

Hi there -

I'm sorry you feel this way. Our policy on this is explained in our Terms of Use, which you agreed to when you joined. Posts do provide good information for other readers, and deleting posts from a thread can result in a thread not making sense.

If there is a specific post, or a few posts, that you'd like us to edit to remove personal info from, we'd be happy to help you with that.

Feel free to send me a private message with the links to them, and let me know what you'd like removed.  So long as it doesn't alter the medical content of the question, we are happy to do that for you.

We can also change your username if you are concerned with privacy. If you'd like us to do this, send me a message with your top 3 choices for a new name, in order of preference, and we will do our best to accommodate those for you.
