Dog bite kind of concerned

I was bitten yesterday by a dog being walked by a gas station and snugged at me when I was past the owner. There’s two small hole marks next to bruising.  I didn’t get the name or number or if he had shots done and now I’m concerned about rabies. I live in the US also

Thank you

Hi, and sorry you were bitten by a dog. We are not doctors on these sites but I can give you some advice. I guess you don't know where the person with the dog lives right? If  you did you could call animal control and they might have a record of who the dog is and what their vaccination schedule is. Or you can report the incident to them or to the police and give a description of the dog. Then, they could quarantine the dog. But if you have no idea where they live or the description of the dog doesn't help that you give to animal control then I guess you should see a doctor right away for vaccination shots against rabies.

Thanks for the reply, I went to the local urgent and she told not to worry about rabies and gave me a tetanus and I’m still a little worried about it because *** you mentioned it was unknown the status of the dog.
I’m also having a hard time finding the rabies vaccine in my area
Well, the United States has a very low incidence of Rabies in dogs. Usually, it is in bats and rats etc. But, even then the U.S. is low compared to other countries. So it is unlikely you will get Rabies. But, you can get a second opinion from another doctor and see if they recommend vaccination. Too bad you didn't get the dog owners information to follow up.  In the United States, postexposure prophylaxis consists of a regimen of one dose of immune globulin and four doses of rabies vaccine over a 14-day period. Rabies immune globulin and the first dose of rabies vaccine should be given by your health care provider as soon as possible after exposure. Additional doses or rabies vaccine should be given on days 3, 7, and 14 after the first vaccination. Current vaccines are relatively painless and are given in your arm, like a flu or tetanus vaccine.
Here is the link from the CDC:

Did the dog show any signs of being ill or acting weird? Anyway I would follow up with your doctor not Urgent Care.

Im hoping to get in to the doctor ASAP but I have no way of knowing until tomorrow on how long. And I’m worrying because I regret not getting the contact information. But the dog acted more defensive of the owner then just trying get me but it happened quick so that’s all I could tell.
Thank you.
It is good to double check with your doctor. But it is rare in the U.S. and doesn't sound like the dog was rabid.  I would just check and get the second opinion. Sorry you had to go through this.

I appreciate all your help I decided to take the vaccine at the ER close to me to be safe.
Sorry you went through that. I guess it is better to be safe. Take care.
