Fever since last 4 days

Hi, I have been suffering from fever around (101F) , weakness and dry cough. I went to a Dr and he put me on aceclofenac+paracetamol, azythromycin, a medicine for acidity. It's the third day today but still the weakness n fever has not subsided. Dr asked me to undergo blood test and urine test. Widal's test is 1:80 and got high eosonophil count about 21 I think. Dr still says its a viral fever. I'm worried it could be typhoid as my lab guy said the same. Can someone please help as to what should I do and how to get better?

HI and sorry you are ill. Do you have diarrhea? or constipation, or stomach pain, achy and weak, and headache? The diarrhea is the biggest sign. Usually, you would have these with typhoid which is caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi. Have you or someone living with your traveled out of the country to a developing country recently? The Widel test is to check for Typhoid but your result is slightly low. A positive usually is 160 or higher for recent infection. Did you have a vaccine of typhoid in your life? This vaccine can cross react with this test. The high Eos short for the Eosinophil cells, and are high but not that high. But being high they are a sign of a parasitic infection or fungal infection not a bacterial. Usually your white blood cell count would be high.  A better test would be to get a stool culture done and a blood culture. If you can. The stool culture will look directly for the bacteria in the stool. They would treat you with antibiotics if you had it. If they took a blood sample it may have just been for the eos count and this antibody test for the Widals test. If you do get the stool culture to check for typhoid or Salmonella perhaps you can check for ova and parasites too since your Eos were high. Let me know if you have any questions. The dry cough does sound possibly viral. Can you eat and drink without having stomach problems?
