Serious anxiety..

Ever since I developed a fear that I have HIV from a 30 second encounter no ejaculation took place.. I tested for everything including HIV at 5 weeks and 3 months. I tested negative in november. I then noticed a lymph node under my jaw line it was very mobile and quite bigger than the other side of my neck and still is.. I went to get an ultra sound and they told me it's a reactive lymphnode!? but reactive to what i'm not sick or anything. Then I was wondering I should probably go again and get it checked out, so I did. Now it's near the end of Jan, my doctor told me the guidlines for HIV are 3 months and doesn't recommend me getting tested. He then touched my lymphnode and told me I should get my Thyroid checked and the lump again. He went through my last outlook on my ultrasound results and one of my lypmnodes were 2.7 cm. Can touching lymphnodes all the time cause them to swell by anychance? I have no symtopms but my hands are constantly cold and I feel very depressed. I'm scared I'm going to die, and I still might have HIV or cancer.  It's my first semester in Nursing and I cant even focus.

No lymphoma or cancer wouldn't lower your lymph nodes they would increase. So It sounds good they went down.

Well, I just read that even though the window period is 3-4 weeks for the 3rd generations tests the World Health Organization recommends 1-3 months to be conclusive. So you are conclusive since you had it at 3 months. So you can stop worrying.  We all get swollen lymph nodes.
Hope this helps.

Hello again. So I got tested for hiv at 6 months and hiv is ruled out. I got my ultra sound results and said that the lymph node has decreased in size since the last ultra sound. It was 2.8 cm now it's 1.8 cm. Would lymphoma or cancer decrease in size?

Hi, and sorry your so stressed. Actually, the 3rd generation test is even more sensitive than the 4th generation test the difference is just that it gives you a antigen test for earlier detection. Actually, the 3rd gen test window period is 3-4 weeks (unlike the old tests). So you don't have to wait for 3 months or longer for that test. The fact that you have a swollen lymph node kind of indicates you have an active immune system and are not immuno-compromised.  So I would hope you can let this go. If you want more information on HIV go to the HIV prevention Forum. They may make you feel better, if I haven't done the job!

Thanks for the reply! I asked my doctor the day of the checkup. He said that he doesn't know what generation testing Toronto labs use and I would need to contact the labs to find out. At 3 months I tested at a sexual health clinic with a Rapid HIV test it was an INSTI test. I looked online to see what generation the INSTI test is and it's 3rd generation. I'm going out of my mind. I'm really scared to get tested again and it's 6 months now.. and this lymph node hasn't gone away. I had this lymph node even at 3 months when I tested negative.. maybe my test was a false negative.

Thanks for your reply. The test I don't know if It was 4th generation or 3rd.. but i'm pretty sure it's an elisa test. I then got an Insti test at 3 months at a sexual health clinic. The lump is under my jaw. I'm scared i'm one of those late sero converters. I'm in a serious relationship now.. after finding out i'm negative.. but iI still have doubts. I get my ultra sound results tomorrow.. hopefully nothing too serious..

p.s. the 4th generation test can be taken earlier than the other tests. That is why I asked. You don't have to wait 3 months. around 35-45 days is the perfect time.

Do you know what test you took at 5 weeks? Was it a 4th generation HIV test? If so you are totally clear and have nothing to worry about. Yes sometimes rubbing the lymph node can aggravate them a make them a little tender. But your lymph nodes swell due to any virus, bacteria etc. that is their job. So even when you don't feel sick you fight off things daily. So I wouldn't worry about it. If the doctor thinks you should get your thyroid tested then do it because maybe the lump is in the area of the thyroid and the cold hands are a symptom of perhaps goiter. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about the other things.
take care,
