chronic low grade fever, more than a year. help!

I have had a low grade fever (99.4-99.9) continuously for a year now.  My only other symtoms are a general flu-like feeling.. feeling sort of "foggy" and tired.  I have been to an infectious disease doctor, an allergist, and a rheumatologist.. ive had a great deal of bloodwork done also.. all of which comes back relatively normal.. other than a "slightly positive" ANA.

Ive been told to keep a journal of my fever and any other symptoms.. but it is effecting my life on a daily basis. does this sound like anything else?

Hum, well half the population may have Ebstein Barr but they are not symptomatic. Usually, when you first get Mono, (which you don't sound like you have because you haven't mentioned swollen lymph nodes or a sore throat), CMV and Herpes (also not saying you have that) you get symptoms when first exposed. Then, the virus goes intracellular and may or may not breakout with symptoms. Also, they can tell by paired serum testing whether it is an acute or previous infection by the IgG level going from a low level to a high level two weeks apart.  There would be I'm just trying to think what would cause such a long term fever. The face rash could be biopsied and have you had anti-DNA and RA tests done? The ANA is diagnostic for several autoimmune problems depending on the pattern it exhibits under the microscope. If for example you see a homogeneous staining it may be Lupus or if it is speckled it is another type of disease. But since it was low it may be a false pos. Well, I hope they can figure it out.

Yeah no real other symptoms, My face seems to flush red pretty easily and I am gaining weight (I think it is just because of a lack of feeling great though). I did test positive for Epstein Barr but that was a year ago and the dr. said that half the population would test positive so it wasn't super relative.
thanks for your response

Hi well, you are doing the right thing in journaling. Sometimes a virus will give you low grade fever, even hepatitis (but usually with nausea and diarrhea etc). A low titer ANA such as 1:64 is usually considered negative but they watch to make sure you don't develop anything.  Since you do have a fever something either infectious or autoimmune. I assume you have no other symptoms such as face rash, achy joints no swollen lymph nodes under your neck or elsewhere? Did they test you for Ebstein Barr Virus? I am thinking of a chronic fatigue syndrome also. But it is hard to tell with no other results or symptoms. Have you done any foreign travel? I had a high fever for a month but it was coccidiodes and I had night sweats and a dry cough.Keep journaling you are doing the right thing. Some drugs may cause low grade fever. Are taking anything?
