Does this sound like IBS or something more sinister? Getting very anxious

I have had loss of appetite, stomach pains, nausea and frequent loose bowel movements (going on average 5 times or more a day even though I am barely eating) for just over 2 weeks now. I went to the GP who didn't ask much or seem concerned and just said its 'IBS or anxiety'
I'm 29 and to be honest I have got myself scared that this is a bowel cancer as my cousin is a similar age and has just been diagnosed with it. I just want to be able to eat a normal sized meal and not have to worry about how far away I am from the toilet at all times again!
Does this sound like IBS to you? Or should I be pushing the doctors more?

This could be a bad GI virus (which can sometimes last 7-10 days), but two weeks is a long time.  I would suggest scheduling an appointment with someone who specializes in colon/rectal issues to make sure it isn't something more serious.  IBS usually doesn't cause nausea, which is more consistent with a GI infection or food poisoning than with either IBS or bowel cancer.
