Is it IBS or something elese?

Hello,

Since several weeks, perhaps months, I have intestinal problems which I did not solve on my own. I did not go to the doctor yet, but I think I will do it anyway.
Sorry to be so crude, but my stools seem not perfectly normal. Often it is, but sometimes during the last weeks, it was very difficult to wipe; I must use a great quantity of toilet paper and even go to the bathroom to be completely clean. My stools have sometimes been soft; at the moment, it has a good shape and consistency.
More importantly, when I wipe, there is a light brown, sometimes yellowish color on the paper, and it seems quite wet, as if I had diarrhea although I did not. Is it mucus or something else? My stools are often light brown, but never yellow, and there is no mucus in the toilet bowl. The stools do not always sink; occasionally, they float (but rarely). There has never been any blood or something more worrying.
In addition to this, I have flatulences, and some of them -- excuse me for the details -- leave a stain in my undergarments, which is very uncomfortable.
Last point, I have endured some abdominal pain and bloating. Once, the pain has been so intense that I had to go home, and then I got diarrhea which release my pain. It occurs very rarely; otherwhise my stools are soft or normal; but abdominal pain is recurrent, especially after dinners.
I must say that I have always had some intestinal pain, and from time to time in the past, it was very intense too and force me to go to the bathroom (where I had semi-liquid stools). I am surely fragile, because as soon as I have a stressful experience, I can endure a terrible pain that drives me in the bathroom. It occured in the past when I had my exams, for instance.

But it is the recent ailment that troubles me. What could it be from your point of view? Does it correspond to IBS? If so, why do I have some flatulences with "discharge"? Why do the stain on the toilet paper seem not normal?

Thanks.

Thank you, dear Doctor. Then, IBS is a great possibility.

Is it normal however to have semi-solid stools, but wet and yellowish when wiping? It is very strange, because sometimes my stools seem totally normal, though the stain on the toilet paper looks like I had diarrhea!
Is it also an IBS symptom?

Hi,  IBS can cause a combination of symptoms, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating and discomfort. The most common or primary symptom is usually abdominal pain.  Then again please check for Diabetes as this can affect the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves leading to bowel symptoms. This can be detected by a simple blood test. Also local pathologies in the rectum like growths or inflammatory diseases can also leave a feeling to defecation. For this a proctoscopy or a sigmoidoscopy will help detect the lesion. If other conditions have been ruled out, then a diagnosis of IBS is made. So, would advise you to discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time. Regards.
