Duplex Kidney

i am 18 years old, and have been suffering with duplex kidney my entire life. i am currently looking for options to correct mine, as recently it is extremely persistent and will not go away. i have a routine of getting rid of any pain quite quickly, and will sort it out in about an hour and a half or so! although, it is not going away... i was on mild antibiotics everyday for 3 months to get my kidney or bladder "out of the habit" of getting infections. i have now come off these and my problems has returned almost instantly. even though i have had this issue my entire life, it extremely gets me down and my mood becomes very low if i feel an infection is going to happen. emotionally this is exhausting me, it may now be affecting my partner, (not sure if it is possible). i am now seeking more medical help, possibly involving surgery. i would love to know if anyone has any information about possible surgeries and any way to correct duplex kidney!! Please help!

I had to get my duplex kidney fixed due to chronic infections. Unfortunately my laparoscopic surgery turned into open surgery, and ended up with the loss of the kidney. I still don't regret it though because I was so sick all the time, and on antibiotics which I don't think is good for a body

Complications like this are rare too so chances are really strong this wouldn't happen to you.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

For any chronic infections of the kidney, you will be put on low dose antibiotics for extended periods. This will prevent infections and further damage to the kidneys.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Thank you so much for your help! i will do some more research and talk to my doctor about what you have said. i am going into theatre in the next two weeks so my doctor can have a look at my bladder and see if everything is working fine. i have also been told that i may have to be on a low dose antibiotic daily for aprox 3 years... not too happy about it as i just want something done that will get rid of my problem completely.. not "maybe"

again, thank you for you help

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Normally a duplex kidney is detected incidentally and may not need any correction. However, If a duplicated kidney is associated with VUR, an ectopic ureter or a ureterocele, then surgical correction will be based on the associated abnormality. Discuss these options with your consulting doctor.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
