Dr left stone in kidney

In July I had surgery to remove and break up two stones, one 1 cm and the other 6 cm, and I thought that the 2mm stone I had also came out. I just had an ultrasound this morning and the tech said there's still a 2mm stone in my kidney. Is it normal that the doctor would leave a stone in the kidney like that? I truly thought I was done with this...

Hi,  I am not a medical professional but have had many surgeries to remove stones.  I would venture to say that a small piece broke off and wasn't removed.  I know from personal experience that a tiny stone can cause major issues, so it's good you had an ultrasound and can keep watch on it.  Where is it located in your kidney?  What pole? Good Luck.
