Scared of lymphoma

HI Ken, in January I discovered 2 lumps under my right armpit. I went to my Dr who suggested an ultrasound. I had that done in March, and the radiologist told.me they looked.like reactive nodes. When I HD my follow up with my gp she said the size was not concerning (small) and showed fatty hilum, however she wanted me to come back in 3 months. She said they most likely would not be palpable.  It's 2 months later and they are still palpable and I have recently started having low grade fevers. Thoughts? ? Thank you so much. Btw, I'm 32 female good shape

Thanks, Ken. Is there ever a chance a node can show. Fatty hilum and still be malignant?

We can say that the cancer cells replace the hilum cells.

Think of slicing a tomato. There is a structure inside -- the ribs and seeds, etc. Now think of slicing a potato and there is not any structure because the cells are all the same (which is what a cancer is like).

But on the other hand, the hilum can be gone even in some inflammation conditions that are not-cancer, so absence of the hilum is not necessarily very bad.

Do you have any history of odd immune conditions? Any family history?

Thankfully the answer to.both is no. I'm probably just letting my mind get the best of me. Im a worrier. Thank you so much for your replies.

Hi, your sono report is the best that can be as far as being not-cancer. You also haven't said that they have gotten bigger, which is good.

Nodes can stay enlarged because:
- there is some ongoing infection or other stimulus (even anti-perspirant that you are very sensitive to) that make them stay enlarged
- there has occurred scarring (fibrosis) inside the nodes, and scar tissue can take a long time to disappear

If/when you ever have a followup sono, ask the tech right then if they see the fatty hilum. That's the best sign and can be a relief for you right away without waiting for the doc appointment.

Fevers are usually a sign of advanced lymphoma, which you don't have.

Things look okay.
