lymphoma

Hi all....I am over here freaking out:/ I have been having pain in my groin area for about a month and a half. I went to the doctor who sent me to have an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed two enlarged lymph nodes. Now the doctor wants me to have blood work and a biopsy of one of the lymph nodes...what do you guys think??

Jenny, I"m reading your posts and am wondering what the results were from your biopsy.  Although i am male, i am having similar issues.  Ultrasound done awaiting results.  had one three months ago tha said the node was enlarged but benign.  wondering what your report was.  Let me know.  Thanks.

Blood work is a helpful tool for diagnosing cancer but its not definitive.  You can have cancer and still have blood work come back just fine.  This is what happened to me.  Usually more advanced cancer will show up on your blood work.  The biopsy will be much more telling and is the gold standard for diagnosing blood cancers.

Most likely not, as your groin lymph nodes filter lymph fluid from the lower half of your body. However it could still be from a localized infection near the groin, legs or feet (maybe a cut or bug bite?)  There are other causes for swelling in the groin area besides cancer.  Do a search for causes of swollen groin nodes and you will see that there are many possible reasons why the nodes swell in that particular area of the body.  Still, I think it's good that your doctor is doing a biopsy and I'll keep my fingers crossed that your biopsy comes back benign.

A sinus infection would not cause my lymph nodes in my groin to swell would it??

Night sweats due from lymphoma/leukemia are usually drenching, so much so that you have to get up in the middle of the night and change your clothes and/or sheets.  I'm assuming the low grade fever has gone away with your cold?  If you truly had a sinus infection (or any other infection), that could possibly be what is making your nodes swell.  Did you tell your doctor about your cold/sinus infection?

I had some nights were I wake up and can tell I have been sweating but not like drenching wet. I have had a low grade fever but I was experiencing either a cold or sinus infection...my weight has been steady no loss...??

I can understand your anxiety, but try not to worry too much until you get your results back.  Possibly you are experiencing an infection which is causing your lymph nodes to swell.  Something else that might bring you comfort is that pain is not usually associated with blood cancers.

Are you experiencing any other symptoms besides swollen nodes?  Fevers, night sweats or extreme weight loss?
