Lump on my left neck
Hi,
Do anybody know what is the lump behind my ear near my scalp? I’ve felt this lump a week ago and i am not sure how long it’s been here. I do remember back in November 2020 I felt the same lump but I wasn’t concern as I did not get sick. Although now it bothers me because of what I see online.
The lump is located on my left side and it’s not visible unless I move my neck to the opposite side. The size is about 1 inch and kinda rubbery but not movable. It is painless but whenever I try to feel it and press it gets a bit tingled.
I just had my bloodtest & everything seems to be normal except a slightly elevated neutrophils of 6.22 aside from that everything is normal.
I don’t want to worry too much but if you can give me an enlightenment with this one that would be great. I told my GP via telehealth and he said he would just order a CT scan for my peace of mind even though he haven’t seen it yet. But my CT scan is not until June 4.
I don’t have any fever, or fatigue or night sweats. I am slowly losing weight though because I am overweight and trying to lose it purposely. I am on low carb and Intermittent Fasting.
Please if you can give me an idea of what i have it would be much appreciated.

Hi Ken, I was wrong about the CT Scan. It is an Ultrasound. I have an upcoming trip this is why it was pushed on June 4. And my GP wants me to do it same time as my thyroid nodules Ultrasound.
I was thinking of doing it anyway sooner overseas.
The lump is not on the same extraction site. It’s the opposite of the wisdom tooth extraction.

Okay, so they are nodules inside the thyroid, not nodes downstream from the thyroid.
"How I wish I can do the UT sooner just to relieve anxiety.."
You can try to find a walkin ultrasound place, maybe you can get it done tomorrow. Or else a doc's office with a portable ultrasound. You don't have to be bound to one particular place. Tell the doc who wrote the order that you absolutely cannot stand the waiting. You do need an order for the US that you can take/use anywhere.
Sometimes a med practice wants you to use their place, so they get the profit.

Yes I believe so. And I have two nodules about 8mm i think. My mom had the same issue and took out hers and biopsied both and thankfully they were benign. She had thyroid issue. I dont have.

I will ask my dermatologist tomorrow since I have an appointment just to have an idea of what this lump is.

I was going to ask if they were nodes or nodules. Very different - both for the thyroid area, and also for behind the ear. The US should tell what is there behind the ear. A doc can probably tell fairly surely during an actual visit in person, depending on where exactly it is.
Cancer would be the least likely. Since it's not same side as the tooth, maybe it's not a node either. Just some benign mass or cyst (fluid).

Hi Ken, for the thyroid i think they are nodules according to my GP. This will be the third Ultrasound for my thyroid nodules, doctor just monitoring the growth.
As for the one behind my neck/ ear this will be the first time. Thank you Ken for my answering me. Will keep you posted! How I wish I can do the UT sooner just to relieve anxiety..

I would want an ultrasound instead of a CT. At one inch, it's big enough so that if it is an enlarged node, then the US will see what it is like inside. Also, it is right at the surface, which is good for a US. You also probably can get a US much sooner than getting the CT.
Both US and CT can see the shape, which is a big factor; you want it to be oval, not rounded.
But is the CT is without contrast? That's almost a waste. It can see the shape, but not the internals.
