Lymph node enlarged

I just came back from my GP and was told my lump on the back of my neck is actually an enlarged lymph node.

I felt this node back in November 2020 while taking a shower, i thought it was nothing so i left it alone. My WBC tends to go up and down since I started my routine bloodtest yearly/ every 6 months. Being 15,000 the highest. In June 2021 I was referred to a Hema to go over the bloodtest & he ran some blood test to screen for blood cancer. He checked for swollen nodes but he said nothing. I was sent home bec he said i am fine.

I ignored the lump behind my neck but this year February 2022, I decided to get ultrasound since im doing my yearly thyroid nodules ultrasound. I requested it specifically to my GP. I dont feel sick or anything, no symptoms. It’s just the hypochondriac in me.

Anyways test says low suspicion but it is enlarged. My GP told me to monitor & do yearly ultrasound just like for my thyroid nodules. And if gets bigger we will need biopsy.

Is biopsy a definitive diagnostic tool to check for malignancy? Do you think I should push for it now or just listen to my GP? I don’t think there is lymphoma history in our family, or even cancer. I just have health anxiety as you can read. Every time I look and read about lumps it always end up with leukemia or cancer or lymphoma.

Your answers would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, Kay. I just have a few minutes for now. If you post the ultrasound report, I'll explain why the doc isn't worried. Size alone is not much of an indicator.

Also tell me exactly where it is. The very back, back of the neck - or more so behind the ear.

"Do you think I should push for it now..."
No, a biopsy most likely is not justified at this point, and no surgeon would do it. We should instead look at how this is related to your blood tests. Don't worry about cancer. More tomorrow.  :)

"but this year February 2022, I decided to get ultrasound"
That was wise, because it lets us rule out cancer.

"It’s just the hypochondriac in me."
Nope, not at all.
