Any ideas what is going on liver funtion test

My 17year old son had bloods taken, it came back with abnormal liver funtion
And under active thyroid. My son has lost a lot of weight. He had to repeat the bloods and get a full liver function test on the Friday, on the Monday we had a call from the hospital with an appointment for the Thursday. Then we revived a letter from the doctors to say after thinking about it over night in the first instance he should get further blood tests repeated and then referred to a clinic for further imaging and to get reviewed in the 1st instance but continue to get bloods taken an the doctors surgery. I’m baffled , can anyone tell me what’s going on
