Lab Results for Albumin & Globulin

Not sure if i am on the right community board - but i have a question about my lab work.  I had a comprehensive Meta-S panel done for my yearly physical and all numbers were normal except:

Albumin, which was 4.9 (range is 3.2 - 4.8)
Globulin, which was 2.1 (range is 2.3-3.5)
A/G Ratio: 2 (range 1-5)
All other numbers on lab was normal

My doctor has not explained to me what the Albumin and Globulin results mean. Not retuning my call. Can anyone explain.
Thank you so much

Yes, it would showup. It isn't likely, just a possibility that I included. Your kidneys are only part of a complex process. I don't think you have anything to worry about, but your doctor might snoop around just to be safe. And you BUN looks great as well.

Wow, you gave an excellent explanation of everything.  I really appreciate you taking the time!  If my kidneys were up to something, would numbers show up on my normal blood work such as BUN, which was 6.0  ?

Both Albumin and Globulin are proteins. Your Albumin is just slightly elevated and your Globulin is slightly low. But these excursions aren't alarming. Your A/G ratio is at a very healthy level of 2. Your Albumin is produced by your liver, and your Globulin is produced by the liver and the immune system. Albumin is very important and is used as a critical measure of how healthy your liver is, from a synthesis standpoint. Your level is on the high end which is very good. Once the Albumin drops below 3.5, then your liver isn't doing so well and your doctors get worried. Your Globulin levels tend to get high as you liver becomes diseased. But again your Globulin are on the lower end of things. Your doctor may run some additional tests on your kidneys to make sure all is well there, and to break the Globulin proteins down into smaller subsets: Alpha1, Alpha2, Beta and Gamma. If your kidneys are not filtering correctly, then your Globulin proteins maybe leaking out. But again, your numbers aren't alarming. If your immune system is up to something, then this will be reflected in the percentage ratios of your subgroups - Alpha1, Alpha2, Beta and Gamma.

Hope this helps, take care.
