Shukla, the elevated SGPT usually indicates liver damage,
but not necessarily so.
Your alcohol intake should be suspended until you have this thoroughly investigated by a Hepatologist, since high or acute alcohol intake is a known factor in fatty liver, which
commonly causes elevated liver enzymes.
Your SGPT at 49 could be only slightly elevated-you did not give us the lab's reference range, however, in chronic alcohol liver disease or alcoholic cirrhosis, slight elevation
of SGPT is common!
Don't take any chances, abstain form alcohol and get this properly evaluated asap.
Best wishes,
Niko
