I'm 40 year old female healthy as far as I can tell, but in the past year have had extreme bruising on and painful to the touch skin on legs and arms. Have been anemic and my doctor test me often,I continue with my vitamins and extra iron but still bruising is getting worse! other than a bening brain tumor I had removed in 2003 ive been healthy. Recently my blood test did come back with something wierd about my red blood cells but the doctor was unsure what to do. I lost my heath insurance shortly after my tumor operation so its hard for me to see a hemotologist. Any suggestions i could pass along to my primary would be greatly appriciated.
You need to see a hepatologist for that, but they usually diagnose with a liver biopsy. They normally treat the symptoms first and then, if your liver is unable to function properly and you 'qualify', you are usually put on a path towards a transplant.
