At the age of 24, (4 years ago) I was diagnosed with Lupus. I had kidney failure (BP was 200/100 when I went into the emergency room and kidneys were about 25% functional) and through meds (prednisone, Cell Cept, Simvastatin and Lozartan) I have re-cooperated back (creatnine to proteine ration is about >1. I've been working out for about 2 years now with a constant intake of protein. My blood work results have all turned out great and I've mantained healthy. I beleive that working out faithfully and taking protein to recooperate your muscles really helps. That's just my opinion though. I havn't had a flare up since I've been diagnosed.

What do you recommend more to avoid inflammation and flare ups, whey protein or vegan protein supplements? Are protein supplements safe to take while on prednisone and hidroxocloroquine? I feel because of my cut I'm losing more muscle than I want beacuse I don't take any protein supplements, only food rich with protein.
I'm 22 btw and I have been diagnosed with lupus since 2016 but it started late 2015
I tried it once before I went to bed and it took a very long time to fall asleep. Is it normal? Does it wake you up?
Sorry Carolina_cmj that no one responded.  Here's a helpful article regarding causes of lupus and things that increase flare ups.  https://www.webmd.com/lupus/understanding-lupus-prevention#1  Do you have kidney issues?  That's when someone needs to be careful with protein.  Unless you are allergic to milk proteins, whey protein should not increase inflammation.  Whey is considered king in protein supplementation, however, vegan protein is also very good.  Either would be likely be fine. But I recommend you run all of this by your treating physician for confirmation and guidance.  best to you
