Back on the meds..soon

So I had my appointment today with my PA.  I dug up an old blood test record that showed my kidneys were about the same now as they were in Sept 2010, only about 6 weeks after my chronic fatigue kicked in.  We still don't know if my kidneys were infected with Lyme then, or if that is just my normal.  Either way, I won't know til I am cured.  I am going to restart my bicillin shots, but after I have done 10 days of diflucan to get my stubborn yeast under control.

I am relieved, as some of my symptoms are sneaking back up on me. I will be going on my first plane trip Tomorrow with my family, and I will have to deal with my increased symptoms, but at least I won't have a painful herx.  In the past, bicillin went straight to the bugs in my ribs and I had nasty rib pain for a couple days.  At least I won't have that while on vacation, and I won't have to travel with syringes and an ice pack.

So overall, good news.  We'll monitor my kidneys every couple weeks, so hopefully they'll hold up.

Travel is tough for us. I am glad you made it though.

I do believe there is a genetic susceptibility to yeast sensitivity.  Some years ago (very much pre-Lyme)I ran across a book, 'The Yeast Connection', by a Dr Crook (!), that tied together many of my constant digestive issues.  The idea of yeast sensitivity was treated back then like Lyme is today:  with derision.  The medical profession dismissed the whole issue with a shrug, but having read Crook's book and learned to avoid (for me) particularly problematic foods, I was not entirely surprised when the yeast-based probiotics my Lyme doc put me on caused big problems.

I am now coming up on two years without bread or wheat in my diet, and I truly do not miss them.  I used to crave bread, and you know what they say about craving things you are allergic to.  It's true, at least for me!

I was at the point where walking down the bread aisle in the store would cause me to get light-headed and disoriented, but now it doesn't bother me.  I stick to rice and quinoa, and do not miss (wheat) bread at all -- and I was a bread junkie my whole life.

And hey, if I walked outside and it was 107, I'd feel lousy too!  Not sure I could deal with the desert anymore.  You sound like you held up very well -- this is progress!  Good for you.  :)

I survived the travel day, although I was quite tired by the end of the day. I am still tired today, too, but doing okay. I am holding up well, symptom wise, as long as no one tries to give me a hug and a squeeze. My ribs are only vaguely painful until somebody squeezes me, and then I really feel it.

I had thought my heat intolerance was gone, but it turns out it had only improved, not actually resolved.  When I go outside (it hit 107 today) and it feels like I walked into a giant blow dryer, I become much more aware of my breathing and I start feeling very tired right away. I perked right up when I got in the pool, though.  Ad I am still better than last summer.

On the gut issues, early in my treatment, a GI analysis said I had very high levels of h.pylorii and campylobacter. Taking 10 days of a PrevPac made a noticeable dent in my stomach pain. Neither has flared back up, but I am convinced I still have some 10th cranial nerve involvement, which accounts for some pain as well as lack of feeling in my digestive tract, and of course, my shortness of breath.

Since going off antibiotics, my digestion and absorption has clearly improved. I gained 7 pounds in 7 weeks without really changing anything. Of course, now I need to pay more attention to what I am eating. I need to apply the same thoughts towards sugar and high glycemic carbs that I have towards gluten. That is, "I can't eat that. If I do, I won't feel good."

Given what I have learned about symptoms of yeast, I am convinced my mother has a yeast problem in her gut, too. I wonder if we have a genetic predisposition to develop yeast imbalances. Or maybe it is just an inherited love of sugar!

Hi !
Rico. Try different brands. I get Klassic Virgin Coconut Oil in pales and case lots of jars. Everyone seems to love it, however, it may not be available in the U.S. Try the Heartland Gold Extra Virgin which is very good and NOT detectable in the cooking! It just tastes great.
2T daily is the recommended. Therapeutic dose is 3-4T daily according to weight, but because of the herx effect 2T is the recommended to start with and build up to 3-4T in 2-3 weeks.
If you suspect adrenal issues, blocked hormonal receptors, likely because of lymes, are the problem. Hormone levels are normal in this case.
Check also for Hypothyroid type 2. Missed by most tests.
Hey, I just thought of  the STOP!!! technique that I use in hypnosis.
I "guide" the person into a place where they are to enjoy their favourite (illegal) treat like a large piece of yummy chocolate fudge cake!
The moment that the fork is about to enter her mouth, I yell STOP!!!
and this is the prompt to leave this scene immediately and to visualize herself thinner, healthier and happier!
Hypnotherapy is great, but you can create your own script, make a mental
movie for visualization, with sounds, smells, colors and emotion and use it
in meditative states for a similar effect as in Hypnosis.
Done right, within 30 days, anything desired will manifest!
You can even kiss those nasty carbs goodbye!
But only if you really want to.

Coconut oil melts around 73°F, so keeping in a cooler place becomes gooey and in the fridge becomes harder.
Lauric acid is found in human breast milk and in coconut oil.
It is what gives newborns immunity as their immune system develops.
Great immune booster.
Caprilic acid, naturally occurring in coconut oil is a great anti-fungal
(& much more!).
It is a constitutional remedy that has a deeper action than some drugs.
In optimum dosage Caprylic acid increases normal cell telomere (NCT) to a desirable 750 ng BDORT units while Diflucan increases NCT by only 25 ng BDORT units. 30x the effectiveness!!

mojogal.
It is very difficult to gauge the effectiveness of remedies and medicines when approaching longer term systemic imbalances.
As I mentioned earlier, it takes about a month of treatment for each year of
yeast imbalance. And it is difficult to establish this, as the imbalance also includes the un-symptomatic period.

Also a great remedy for ulcers is cabbage juice. It is a rich source of glutamine that helps your  stomach produce extra mucin which coats and protects  your stomach and G/I.
My uncle, was a big aspirin and coffee consumer and a very stressed out man. Ulcers was his middle name.lol!
Cabbage juice saved him from a lot of suffering, as any meds gave him
severe constipation.

Cheers!
Niko

Did you ever have an endoscopy to look inside your stomach? I dont have a gallbladder anymore but they found a Bart's sore/ulcer in my stomach. I was given sucrafate which is an RX that coats your stomach and really helps with pain in the gut.

For a while (several months?) as I was killing the fungal infection I had, I was eating coconut oil (which was not oily so much as ... gooey?) every day, about a tablespoon a day or whenever I felt like it.  It does have lots of good nutrients in it, and tastes a bit like the inside of a Mounds bar, only not quite so sweet and with a smoother texture.  It might make some people gag, I dunno, but no problems here.

I see in the stores here that there is coconut milk for sale in those shelf-stable plastic pouches, but haven't tried that.

Thanks for the info.  As far as coconut oil, it really changes the flavor of food.  I don't always like to cook with it.  Is it okay to just eat a tablespoon a day?

I will look up Dr. Lee.  I was sure I had adrenal fatigue before I got diagnosed, and I still have several of the symptoms, even though hormone levels look okay.  (I still perk up in the evenings.)

I will do the Diflucan just for 10 days, then pulse once every 5 days. I really have to just cut way back on carbs, which is HARD for me. I restart the bicillin when diflucan is done.  Bicillin LA is a long acting penicillin by injection.  It was prescribed as an alternative to Rocephin as I was having gallbladder pain early on.  We're also trying to let my gut rest as much as possible, and so retarting the shots rather than the orals.

We'll see how I do on the plane.  Only 1 1/2 hours, so I should survive.

Good luck getting back on your treatment.  My LLMD's have always diligently monitored me through regular bloodwork, and it sounds like you too have been looked after well to have spotted the kidney problem.

I've taken breaks here and there as well, for various reasons, and I know how it feels when old symptoms return.  It is upsetting, especially when something you've since forgotten as ever happening returns.  Recovering is so difficult with these infections, feeling a backslide is no fun.

I travel by plane fairly regularly (a few times a year) and at this point I'm usually fine.  But when I was more sick I often had enough problems with inflammation and frayed nerves that planes rides were tough:  Pressure changes would make my head dizzy, I actually felt I could feel inflammation shift in uncomfortable ways in my body, and my fibromyalgia-like symptoms made it very difficult to tolerate the seats and cramped spaces.

What has worked for me when traveling through tough times is to pad my schedule.  My travel is often for work but either way, scheduling in extra time post-flight to recoup can be helpful.  I also still plan trips, even road trips, such that I have a full day at home before I need to go back to work.  I'm much better than I was a few years ago but still need an extra day to recover, even from a "vacation" trip.

Best of luck with treatment and travel.

Now my hair fell out from low thyroid, Hashimotos, before I started the diflucan. Nystatin didn't work, coconut oil didn't work.
Ok,this is gross but it worked, my LLMD being alternative therapy, told me to put on a small drop of urine on my bottom lips which is always dry and nothing helps it and guess what the urine worked.
My fiancée is not around to kiss me so it was fine. lol

... and PS, my hair all grew back in, as good as ever, tho it did go through a wispy/thin stage for a while.  All back to normal not too long after stopping treatment, but being able to see my scalp through my hair for a while was a tiny price to pay for kicking the beast.

(I was on high doses of Diflucan for longer than the usual course of treatment.)

It's true, Diflucan is strong stuff ... I was on it for long enough (can look it up in my records if you are interested) that my hair started falling out, but I really didn't care ... I was running scared from the fungus.

Coconut oil might be something to try ... I was taking a couple tablespoons a day when I was going through the yeast thing, tho I can't say how or how much it might have helped.  I figured it couldn't hurt in any event.

Coconut Oil!  Great antifungal
More effective than diflucan.
I use extra virgin. Diflucan is hard on the liver.
Coconut oil is liver protective! Visit the coconut
research center website for details. The coconut guru there
is Dr. Bruce Fife. Very easy and nice to talk to.
I've read 3 books on coconut oil and many studies.
There's a study on coconut oil vs diflucan,
if someone wants the link,I'll dig it out.
One of the top functional foods. I think everyone should use it!
Let me know if you have any questions since I feel like a "junior coconut guru"lol!
Really, I have a ton of people on my list who buy virgin coconut oil from me on a cooperative basis (almost wholesale) and they all tell me how wonderful they feel.Their teeth and gums from the "oil pulling"-you gotta try that, sorry Mary A. you just couldn't bring yourself to endure the 20 minutes of OP!- feeling like Mr. Clean! OP helps keep all those (billions) nasty bacteria and toxins out of the salivary glands and oral cavity, instead of finding their way into the body
Their mental clarity, the less "sometimers" and most of all being much healthier and more energetic overall!

Rico. Lyme disease is known to cause adrenal abnormalities at the hormonal receptor sites. Your serum hormone levels -I'm assuming you've done a complete hormonal panel- could be be fine but still adrenal dysfunction could linger around for a long time, and  that unfortunately goes unDX'd most of the time.
Or worse, misDX'd as CFS. "Medical sentence" for life usually, as sufferers have very little chance of recovery.
Dr Lee's website has a great tutorial on adrenal fatigue.

Finally, yeast imbalances, need a month of antifungal treatment per year of existence in your body. Count a lot more than what you think, since yeast
issues don't necessarily present serious symptoms from the start.
Avoid all sugars and grains as well as dairy and  fermented foods or  foods containing yeast. Take good quality prebiotics and probiotics. You have to
take note of your reaction, since some people do well only with certain strains, so you might need to switch to a more tolerable one.
I have used Progressive Nutritionals combo kit (mfg in Canada-not sure if available in the US). They are of very high quality.

Rico. What does Bicillin target and is it bactericidal?
I'm not so good with  the names and actions of many ABX drugs.

Enjoy your visit and your travel! make sure you give and get many hugs!
They are so therapeutic! Remember Leo Buscaglia?
The Love and Hugs Teacher, Author and Speaker known as Dr. Love?

There was something in my notes about kidney issues and LD,
but now my brain is getting into an alpha state, meaning not the best state for intellectual function. Another time perhaps.

Cheers!
Niko

Glad to hear of your good news. I have been on diflucan since March because of so many yeast related problems so as Jackie says it may need longer treatment.
Enjoy your trip!

If the 10 days of Diflucan doesn't kick the fungal infection, it may need longer treatment.  Also eliminating or at least limiting yeasty foods (bread) and high-sugar foods (fruit, some vegetables) could help.  Hang in there!
