A baby born with a disease or illness, I would never think that God did that or as some would say God "allowed" it.  I would look for some other religion if I thought God was the author of people/children suffering or having sickness.

Yes that would be a cruel joke that God would never do.

The Apostle Paul had said that when people look around and see all the beauty of creation, there is no excuse for someone not to believe in God (paraphrasing)...

I belive in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I belive there will be a judgment day and as April2 beutifully stated, "The body is but a shell, but the spirit goes on forever". I believe that we are here for a purpose and once it has been completed, we will stand judgment and will be held accountable for all of our actions and God is the only judge and will decide wheater we are worthy to be called humble servants or do to our choices and breaking of any of the 10 commandments will be sent to eternal damnation...hell.

just my belief and my opinion...thanks Judy

Amen, this is not our true home. We're only passing through. Life is so fleeting. The afterlife goes on forever. Our sense of time is not the same as God's. This time here on earth is our opportunity to learn, grow, experience, the good and the bad.

The body is but a shell. The spirit goes on forever.

An Evangelical Minister asked me one time if I believed in an afterlife.
I said "Of course I do". He seemed surprised that I was so sure about it and asked me why I felt that way.
I said: "infants are born with spina bifida so, if this life was all there was, it would be a cruel joke to play and God would never do that".
There has to be more.

It seems that many people of different ethnic back grounds and religions all have common experiences when brought back to life after being dead for however many minutes,,,the tunnel, light at the end..seeing loved ones who have passed, your life flashing before you,
I find that interesting...have a good book to recomend Its called 98 Minutes in Heaven a based on truth (or his perception of truth) a pastor or minister who died in a highway accident and came back after 98 min,,,read it its short and interesting,.

I agree, it is an interesting question. I'm a Christian, so I do believe in heaven and hell and I believe what Jesus had to say about it, same mentioned by above posters.

But, if I understand you correctly your teacher is looking for what you believe? Or is he/she looking for what all different types of religion believe?

If I were you, first I would ask myself. ..Do I believe in God.

Then I would ask myself, if I believe the Bible is truly the Word of God.

And IF I say yes I believe that the bible IS the Word of God, I would have to"search the scriptures"and see what God has to say about heaven and hell.

Because lets face it, that's one thing we want to make sure we understand before we die - what do we believe and do we feel 100% confident in why we believe whatever we believe, or are we not sure.

I equate it to this....if someone asks any one of us about something concerning health, we answer the question sometimes to the best of our ability, but most times people will ask,,,,,"Do you have the study that can back up what you said?"

Thats a valid question and unless we say, "No I don't have a study, I am just giving my opinion," well then of course the person can say, " I disagree with your opinion, because your opinion doesn't prove anything, I need to see facts from a study."

But IF you do have a study to show them, then you have "proof"- or "facts."

The only difference though between a "study" or showing someone something from the bible is that FACTS change, the TRUTH never changes. And IF someone believes the bible, then they are to believe His Word is "Unchangeable Truth" and not ''Changeable Facts."

But anyhow, good topic/thread. If you are going the Bible route with you paper, you may want to pick yourself up a Concordance. You could then look up heaven and hell and find every scripture pertaining to h/h in Old and New Testament.
Take care,
MO

The body is the house for the soul. Once the house falls apart and can no longer house the soul, it is waste and goes back to the earth. When Jesus was on the cross in between the two thieves, one of them mocked him and told him that if he truly were the son of god, then he would get himself off that cross. The one on the other side said Lord think of me when you get there.  Jesus turned and looked at him and said, today, you will be with me in paradise.  Heaven, paradise, eternal waiting room, those answers I do not have.  But I do know that my God tell me that to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord. As a believer, this is what I hang on to.  I guess from those who do not believe in God or Jesus, they believe they rot into the ground? Man, are they gonna be shocked!

I am a firm believer in Heaven and Hell and I know that I have sinned but hope that as taking god as my savior he will forgive my sins and I will be blessed with going to Heaven.
