I was just wondering how many people on average have Cell Phones.

Question:

I have a cell phone and recently disconnected my home phone.  Have unlimited minutes and text and my bill is combined with my Internet service.

Only recently did I find out that you DO NOT have to have a land line in order to have DSL Internet .. I could have been saving money for years.

I used to have a cell phone when I worked, but, now that I am home most of the time I don't feel a need for one.  For me it was only for emergencies...for the most part I think they are way over used and intrusive...when I am with someone and they take a call on their cell and just talk and talk, it's rude...it feels like they are saying to me "You are not as interesting as the person who just called!"  I do understand the need for them, I really do...but they seem to make your manners go to he!!...and OMG children of all ages have them and call their parents from upstairs in the house rather than walking downstairs...and while shopping people right next to you start talking and you think they're talking to you, so you turn towards them and say I'm sorry were you talking to me and then you see the bluetooth in their ear and you feel so foolish and embarrassed...

I have a cell phone and when I lost my cell phone for a bit I was completely lost. I also have unlimited data package but low minutes. I text more than actually talking on the phone.

My 7 year old son is saving up to buy himself a cell phone. I keep telling him I am not getting him a usuable cell phone until he is 16 and driving.

Here in the Land of Oz we call them Mobile Phones...my friend got me one as my car kept breaking down... I personally can't stand them, hate them, find them obnoxious! I get soooooo tired of them going off at supermarkets, banks, etc and having to listen to other people's conversations, usually at a volume louder than normal speaking tone...I hate seeing teenagers frantically using their thumb as if the time bomb was about to go off in the phone if they don't text a message within an alloted time.
Yes! They have their uses....but as I say to everyone...I work from home, I am not waiting for a transplant and I am not an obstetrician!
Mine is now only used for texting to and from my family. But apart from that..it stays in the drawer!

i'd be so lost if i didn't have my cell. the hubby and i both have verizon (as does 99% of our family and friends) and....it's just the only means of talking for me really. we do have a house phone but we use that for "business". banks, gregs web clients, school, jobs and people like that call the house phone. even our docs call our cell phones. they only call the house phone if we don't answer our cell phones.

I have a cell phone, but no home phone.  My plan includes unlimited data, (internet, text messaging, e-mail, etc.), but the absolute lowest talk time available.

I have one that I use a lot for work because I have to talk to people, schedule things, etc and because I have an "outside" job, I can't sit in the office and make and/or wait for  phone calls, plus I use the camera part for those times I want to catch that "kodak moment" or to verify things for work.  Oh, another feature on my phone is the GPS - because I get into situations where I need to know the fastest way from "point A to point B".

I do, however, prefer to communicate in writing, whether it be via pen and paper, email, etc. I could live without a cell phone much easier than I could live without my computer.  I used to love to write letters - and I DO mean write (as in by hand), but now my fingers hurt/cramp very badly, so it IS easier to type because at least my hands are moving and my fingers are not constantly in the same position (as in holding a pen) so don't cramp so bad.

How cool would it be to go back to a simpler day and time, before answering machines, cell phones, etc??  If I'd call someone and if they didn't answer, I'd wait a while and call back.  If after a while I still couldn't reach them or had reason to worry, I'd get in the car and go see what was wrong or if I was too far away, I'd call a family member/neighbor/friend near by and have them check.  I've even been known to call the police to check on loved ones if I couldn't.

We live in a world of "instant gratification" and being able to call someone at any time, from any where is one instance of the instant gratification.  MY parents couldn't always reach me when I was growing up, but they didn't need to because I had to tell them where I was going and who I was going with and when I'd be home, so they knew who to call if they needed to find me.  Likewise when my own kids were growing up.

I have one. I don't know how I'd live without it now! It makes me feel better to know I can get ahold of my kids any time, too. I made sure they each had one when they turned 16 and started to drive. It does make me feel better knowing I can get ahold of them any time I want!
I also use it for long distance calls. Most of my family have the same plan as I do so it's free!

I know that pretty much all teens have cell phones and even younger people have them nowadays, but even though I'm 18 I really don't like them. I mean I don't like speaking on any phone due to my extreme social phobia from my Asperger's Syndrome.

I agree with SassyLassie that a cell phone is not on my lists of wants or needs. I love communicating via Pen and Paper or by Email a whole lot better. That is how I express myself the best. :)

I said "No, I don't have one and don't plan on having one anytime soon" For me, it is just not on my lists of wants or needs. I am not a phone person anyway, I only use the phone for appointments or emergencies, everything else, I do on-line or e-mail or the old fashioned way of communicating, which is pen and paper. LOL.
