About Inter-Racial marriage/babies
Alrighty lets be honest. I know my granny my moms mom was one predjudice lady ( I am caucasian) my mom grew up that way has friends of all colors, blew a gasket when she found out my sis was dating a black guy( lets not get hung up on sematics ok ..African american) anyways, they really are happy. So I say more power to them. I think babies that are 1/2 black and 1/2 white have the prettiest color of skin. So Im getting at I am not predjudice. I would date a NICE man of any color ( once Im divorced and ready LOL)

One thing that is becoming obvious ,certainly here ,is that race relations have got worse not better this last 8 months ,the divide seems to be a lot bigger and is palpable at times.
I totally agree. If two people really love each other, what's so wrong? Skin color doesn't have anything to do with what kind of person they are.
I've heard that Chinese and English are the most difficult languages to learn. Maybe I can change the computer to the French - I hate not putting accents on some the words - and communicate with you in French lol
Oh yes I believe foot binding of girls stopped a long time ago, I agree that learning lanuages is a good thing, all my Family speak French it is a beautiful language not hard to learn like English is, I would think Chinese is challenging like Russian.I am still teetering on the verge of learning to speak Spanish mostly I have to say to be able to converse with the gardener, as he spaeaks no English at all.
Not such a bad joke = ) Considering how the world is changing - global economics, etc. speaking Chinese and English should be an advantage for my grandson. I've been speaking to him in French and Mohawk and he just takes it all in. My son's wife and her family didn't have the foot binding "thing" - fortunately.
Incidently my Dh had an great Aunty by marriage was chinese from an era where they bound their feet to keep them small, she came to England to live with him, she had so much painin her feet from that tradition they had in those days.

Both my son's married and have children with women from a different race. The older one married a Chinese woman and the younger one "married" a Black woman. I always expected that they would marry someone from a culture different from ours because they grew up in an area where there is a lot of cultural, racial and ethnic diversity. We are Metis - Native American/Canadian/white meaning we are products of a mixed marriage.
My older son and his wife have a two yr old boy and the younger one has a daughter who was born July 8/09. Both babies are just perfect. My grandson is learning English and Chinese which is going to be a real advantage for him when he's older. He's also learning a bit of French and Mohawk from his cheechum (me). My granddaughter is too young to talk yet.

Hey Cherie...My niece mixed...although she is 27 already....But when sister started dating her father and then married ....My Dad did not speak to her ...When she had my niece then he came around....I grew up where there only two other white girls in my class...It bothers me to when I can't understand the doctors...
But don't stop at prejudice for color of skin...There are lots of prejudices...different race, different religions, different political beliefs...If we can all come in and speak intelligently, comfortably and sanely...why can't everyone do that? Why can't people just get along? I have no issues with race, but boy o, did I come from a family tree that just does not swing on the same branch as me. My dad and I have gone round and round on that very subject. I just do not have the capacity to understand the hate and the incredible ignorance of prejudice. People are just people.. All have the capacity for good...all have the capacity for bad....All have the capacity to make it right.......

The source of many of the world's woes might be tracked to a specific brain area responsible for identifying people that are not of our ilk. If so, a study on the neural bases of prejudice and its modulation (read abstract or download the pdf), by Jason Mitchell and Mahzarin R. Banaji, of Harvard University, and C Neil Macrae, at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, published in Neuron in May 2006, could be as important to the burgeoning field of social cognitive neuroscience as Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech was to the American civil rights movement. Like-minded How does the brain differentiate those who are similar to us from those who are different? Does it analyze differences in skin color, language, religion, height, eye color, foot size? Does it discriminate cat versus dog lovers, Pepsi versus Coke drinkers, Shiite versus Sunni, Crips versus Bloods? In a way, the brain does all this and more by simply distinguishing those who don't meet various definitions of who we are. Specifically, a forebrain area called the dorsal medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) appears to predict the behavior of members of outgroups by employing prejudices about their presumed background -- assumptions we make, in other words, based on what groups their various traits and contexts seem to put them in or out of. In this sense, outsiders, or those in outgroups, include humans of dissimilar cultural or ethnic identities or any other perceived stereotyped dissimilarity from your own self-identified groups, as well as non-human agents such as cartoons and animals and even inanimate moving objects. We distinguish otherness by all sorts of indicators, from the seemingly obviously, like sex or race, to the more obviously cultural, such as whether a person is wearing, say, a Yankees cap, a Dodgers cap, or a tee-shirt that says Baseball *****. The focus of the paper under review here focuses less on the cues than on the brain areas that respond to them. The authors detailed the function of a particularly important brain area while studying the neural correlates of "mentalizing." Mentalizing is the ability to predict how other people will behave in a given situation. It combines the powers of theory of mind (our ideas about what other people know and do not know) with the presumptions that we hold about people with dissimilar backgrounds. Some researchers believe that mentalizing is a function of the brain's mirror neuron system, allowing us to predict the behavior of others by simulating how other people may feel in a given situation. The pictures were actually downloaded from an online dating website and randomly assigned to the two groups (which were an invention of the researchers), with each group holding similar racial and gender mixes. The experimental participants, however, thought each person pictured really was from one group or the other because the experimenters contrived demographic information about each photo; this information was randomly reassigned to different pictures with each new experimental subject. The participants, then, were confronted with pictures of people who had randomly generated but coherent cultural and political identities already attached to them. The participants themselves, meanwhile, had answered a questionnaire about their social and political attitudes, which the scientists used to classify them as liberal or conservative. How would these self-described liberals or conservatives react to the pictures of the (supposedly) liberal and conservative strangers? Prior research had suggested that the medial prefrontal cortex, or mPFC, an area stretching up and forward from roughly beneath the temple, was known to be involved in mentalizing. The researchers hoped to distinguish whether two important parts of the medial PFC, the ventral mPFC (toward the front of the mPFC) and the dorsal mPFC (further toward the top of the head), might be reacting differently. The brain imaging results indeed showed a dissociation between these two regions. Heightened activity in the ventral mPFC was associated with mentalization of self-similar people, whereas dorsal mPFC activity was associated with mentalization of self-dissimilar people. But when the participant pondered the subject in situations where an outsider was believed to behave in the same way as the participant would, activity in dorsal and ventral mPFC was equivalent. For instance, virtually all college students enjoy going home for Thanksgiving, irrespective of background, so a conservative student would recognize that even a liberal probably loves Thanksgiving, and his brain would set aside their differences when it came to that situation. Mentalizing as Moralizing The study adds valuable perspective to our understanding brain dynamics associated with stereotyping and prejudice. It shows, for instance, that the recognition of a common interest or trait in an "outsider" has the potential, at a brain-based level, to make that outsider seem less foreign and threatening. Prejudice may in part arise (and be easily aggravated) when people assume that members of an outgroup do not have corresponding mental states, due to their different backgrounds. Without a self-referential basis to mentalize individuals from an outgroup in a specific circumstance -- without the opportunity, in other words, to recognize the things they have in common -- perceivers may rely heavily on stereotypes to predict the mental states of outgroup members. The experimenters certainly saw it that way. They concluded that "that a critical strategy for reducing prejudice may be to breach arbitrary boundaries based on social group membership by focusing instead on the shared similarity between oneself and outgroup members." This is not new advice. Yet it is heartening to see that it is firmly grounded in distinct patterns of neural activity. There may be a brain basis for reacting with prejudices for those that seem different. But there's also a brain basis for overriding those differences and seeing outsiders as more like us.

Very well said Brian. We are all one nation, under God pretty much says it all. It is the ways and attitudes that divide us not color. I bet we would all be quite surprised if we got to searching around in our geneology. We are all mixed I bet. I know I have Indian in me, some irish, some german. You are a grown woman now! Learn from their mistakes don't be foolish take control if ur own life grab the wheel & take control of it! You can't judge people by what ur parents say you know right from wrong don't you! My parents have said bad things about white folks! But until one experiences for their self well you know! I don't know how ur gonna take this but it's time 2 grow up get off the baby bottle! & start eating meat that's the only way you will ever learn!

I know what u mean oh the black man might steal from well for me its hard REALLY hard!! I dont feel im prejudice we are all alike but my family is SO VERY prejudice especially against african american and i grew up in a town with not that many black people so its very weird for me when im around so many and in my town you can go to one place and seen a BIG group!! but i feel its not that im prejudice just that my family has said so many bad things about black people i dont know how to act or respond or nothing cus i dont wanna do the wrong thing!! Hopefully that dont sound bad!

All races are beautiful.... and I can't wait to have me a beautiful mixed baby!! My husband and I are working on that =) My baby brothers wife is also african american..and they have the cutest little boy. Most of my friends all have multi racial relationships and kids. Hatian, White, black, hispanic, Asian..I have all sorts of friends from all over.
