Muslim TV man beheads wife in NY

She asked for a divorce and in return he chopped her head off.  Word has it that it was suppose to be an "honor killing".  I hope he will get the death penalty.  I hope he does not disappear like the muslim father in TX who killed his two beautiful daughters because they became "to western".  He booked out and nobody can't find him.

I agree it's very much a question of how we were raised and how we raise our children.  I am really proud to say that my children have been raised to understand that nothing is for free, and you should expect respect if you show respect to another.

The thing that worries me is it's not only the ones that "have not" now that are desperate.  It's friends like mine who have been making a really good living for years and all of the sudden, have no income and are losing their retirement.  They are freaking out!  We have police officer recently that stole money from the police department to make to pay for medical bills, etc., because his family member has cancer and his insurance doesn't cover them completely.  He is going to jail now.

It's really all just a sad situation we are in now.  I am glad to see how people are economizing.  Maybe this is our generations lesson on how we should live.

Yes all that is true but every parent who brings their children up to respect society and live a moral life style and work hard when they become adults is contributing. I honestly have more in common with the values system of my grandparents that some of the people in the family who are of the generation before me, some of whom in the 60's were hippies and grew up in the counterculture and the like. Yes they outgrew it but not completely. I think parents that teach their children a sense of respect and self control are contributing positively to America. The crime rate in N.Y.C. is actually relatively low now and when I first came back here to stay in the early 90's it was the highest it had ever been and remember we were where 9-11 occured directly. I see more of a sense of unity here then there was before and more of a sense of respecting the law. It some ways things have improved. Its a matter of pulling out of the reccession and yes that will be tough but if we have a common sense of self preservation and support for each other we can do it as a nation.

I agree with you - it's horrible right now and I don't see it getting a lot better.  It's scary to think what our children will be inherting as a result of the mistakes being made right now.

We not only have to deal with the economy, but crime is rising - deaths, rapes, robbery, people are losing everything they have, people getting to the retirement age are finding out they don't have anything......we have to hope that God will intervene in some way.

It all depends. Someone can be billingual and speak their native language as well but yes people should learn English. I know because my mother was a junior high school teacher and she said that classes where students who were immigrants were taught in both languages didn't work and that English immersion classes did. Its harder for an older person to learn English right away but children can easily switch over to another language. Its hard to define America as a whole as there are many cultural traditions even within America itself from people who have lived here for a very long time. The culture of different parts of the United States differs having nothing to do with ethnicity for example. The United States is a very diverse country. I respect someone's cultural practices as long as someone respects the United States and what it stands for. And I have met immigrants who learned English and were defensive about the fact that other immigrants should learn English as part of coming here so you have more support on that than you think.

I think most  Americans would agree that our country and what it stands for is being muddied. When I go to a store and someone on my left is speaking Russian or French and someone on my right is speaking Spanish or Arabic, and I am caught in the middle it is very disconcerting to say the least! English is our language and you either learn it or leave.  We are going to have to take a stand eventually and I just hope it is not too late! When in America, do what  Americans do, unless you are here as a tourist. Then I understand you not noing English. It really ticks me off when I go to a bank and I cannot understand the Teller because they speak broken English at best, but are handling my money! Yikes!

Alcohol was just an example, if you go back and reread I said to substitute whatever you want in the blank.

Immigrants are free to practice their culture and belief systems in their own home, but where it extends over into the tenents and backbone of America, and we have to lay down our rights so they can practice theirs, that is where I have a problem. As do most Americans.

The American way should be honored first. And I am not prejudiced about that. If I went to another country, their ways should be honored first. It is respect and honourable.

That's frankly beyond depressing and I wish the more moderate people who are Muslim would take a stance to denounce this kind of abhorent behavior. There are women who have spoken out against it and faced persecution in the few countries that practice this and have sought asylum here on those grounds so honestly more of them should take a stand. I think the people of Afghanistan would only stand to gain if we brought a complete stop to Al Qaeda and Pakistan should work with us to stop them as well. I can't see any degree of freedom in a country that would practice this and since we have allowed many of those people political asylum who were escaping this, in return in a country such as the United States where they can live in freedom they should take a stance against extremist elements within their own religion.

The laws of the United States have to be respected by everyone. There is no question about that. I'd say tolerance means respecting people who might think differently. It doesn't give people the right to violate the law. I agree with you about young people but that's because society and some parents do not set limits as much as they should. There are some programs are television that are fine for adults but not for children. And certainly every parent should monitor what their child is accessing online. But many parents don't. Of course some things are complex. I don't drink alcohol either. and I'd prefer someone not do that at my house. And there are valid reasons to be opposed to it. But in Afghanistan and Pakistan where bars are subject to terrorist assault that's frightening. The Islamic fanatics are opposed to alcohol as well but not for rational reasons. There's a huge difference between being against drinking and forcing morality on people in a violent way. That's not what America is about.
The truth is there will always be different viewpoints on morality from different backgrounds but the laws of the United States of America stand. If young people see their parents or friends using illegal drugs they are likely to think its acceptable. But that's a willful violation of the law. Any immigrant arriving here should be treated with tolerance as to their cultures and belief systems but that in no manner extends to violating our laws. Part of the oath of becoming an American citizen is to obey the laws of the U.S. and if someone breaks those laws they are no longer welcome here. By anyone.

Its like this, if you come over to my house, I don't drink alcohol, and don't want people doing that in my house, then out of respect for me they don't drink. Substitute whatever you want in there. The thing is it is MY house, and I have THE RIGHT to say what goes on in my house and what does not.
The same thing with our country. We have THE RIGHT to set the standards. The reason our country is in such a mess is because there are no standards. There is no right or wrong anymore. Which is so confusing to young people. No wonder they don't know which way to turn.

Tolerance is wishy washy ****. That is a word thrown out to use when people don't like the fact that someone says "your actions are wrong."  And yes we have the right to say things are wrong. If not, then lets throw out all the laws because when people break them they have been told by the judicial system they are wrong.

People have the right to their own cultures but people have to respect the laws and welfare of all Americans. I would certainly say anyone who comes here who would violate the law in such an eggregious fashion does. This is an obvious example. Murder is murder. No rational person would support murder but I do agree that if someone has the photo taken for their driver's license that you should be able to see their face. But I'd rather not go back to when we had forced assimilation of new immigrants. Many people of all ethnic backgrounds, including western European nations had to give up parts of their culture that were important to them and did not detract from America. Some aspects of American culture, language being an easy example were taken from other cultures. Tolerance is a virtue and I would not stop it. That is part of the American way. But there is no reason to tolerate hatred and intolerance certainly if its directed against us because anyone who does that is trying to detract from our freedoms and frankly doesn't belong here to begin with.

You got it right Peggy.  I'm clapping, lol  I have always felt that things happen, for the most part, because we TOLERATE them.  We claim that we don't want certain things to happen here, but they often happen because we either directly, or indirectly allow them to.

The US can't have it both ways. We want to open our arms to everyone, force their beliefs on Americans but traditional american values are being restricted. We are not America anymore. Hasn't everyone figured that out?

They can spit on our flag, but we have to tolerate them. They don't have to learn our language, but out of tolerance we are encouraged to learn there.

I say tolerance is not such good thing when we aren't tolerant of American Values first and foremost.

Its a group of fanatical extremists within Islam. There are fanatical elements within any religion and cult groups of all kinds. Moderate people who are Islam would not agree with them. In fact, many of the people here who are Islam came to flee from the Taliban. And the ordinary people in those countries don't want their freedoms taken away by a bunch of fanatics and people arrested for watching movies or listening to music (as happenned in Afghanistan and is happenning in Pakistan) but it takes a brave person to argue at gunpoint. They are misusing the religion and just preaching hatred. If Islam weren't around they'd find another reason.

Domestic violence cuts across all barriers.  When it comes to being batterers, no faith, race, profession, or economic group goes unrepresented.

I agree with star641....torture him, let him heal, then start again.....for the rest of his pathetic life.
I have no problem with anyone practicing any religion, as long as it doesn't go against the laws of this country  (United States). If a woman's religion says she is to wear a veil over her face....fine,...but you better remove it for a drivers licence picture, or if the cops pull you over etc.
If you can't obey the US laws, then go some where else, and please let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out.

WHAT?????  What do you mean it doesn't make sense???  I just reread what I wrote, it makes sense!

If husbands were allowed to behead their wives whenever one asks for a divorce-wouldn't there be fewer people left in America??????

How did that not make sense?
