Road Trip

I need some advice.  I am not much of an adventurer and get quite anxious driving new places alone but I am thinking about taking a road trip with my girls this summer.  Unfortunately, I haven't a clue how to go about mapping a safe route w/ hotel stays.  I live in the Phila area and our destination would be Huntsville, AL.  It's about a 14 hour drive and I'd try to stop midway for an overnight.  I just don't know how to find out safe and secure areas to stay along the way as well as when we get to Huntsville.  Any suggestions about how I should go about planning (websites, ect)?

I do have a GPS and I think for sure that AAA would be good to have.  I get lost in my own neighborhood so the GPS comes in handy.  Thank you everyone for your help.

Triptic and GPS, and your good to go.  GPS is great for finding hotels, and points of interest during your trip. Dont leave home without one.

AAA also gives discounts and will map you out a Triptik .. that + a navigational system will be perfect plus you'll have the roadside assistance thru AAA.  Well worth it .. I've used it a few times!

I would go get a GPS  and fast! Especially if your like me and get lost easy that will make the trip much more calm! As far as hotels go to hotels ******* or just search hotels for that area on google!

When I went to Tennessee a few years ago and I live in Harrisburg, PA, we stopped and stayed in Roanoke, VA.  Roanoke is halfway from both you and I and is right off I-81S.  Roanoke is a good area to stay in and has plenty of hotels.  Hope this helps.  Have fun!

Thank you both.  I can't believe that I didn't even think about AAA.  It's a great idea.  I'll look into it.

Are you a member of AAA? I know that members can receive some discounts if they stay at a hotel that offers Triple-A discounts. Their website is www.aaa.com

When my Mom and I went on a eleven hour road trip to Elizabethtown, KY from Wrightsville, PA we had a hotel booked through AAA. We have also gone to www.mapquest.com in order to get directions to our destination, AAA was also able to provide a lot of help with directions as well. You could also try looking up the local weather and news in Huntsville, AL at http://www.al.com/huntsville/ . Good Luck! :) I hope these websites will be able to give you some helpful tips/ideas. If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me. :)

I've never done the driving on a road trip, but I have been on many long road trips with my family.  I'd recommend ordering Triple-A Triptik's in advance.
