What a jerk! What is the rudest behavior you've ever witnessed in public?

I guess you could consider this a current event. While at the grocery store last night, a woman in a scooter was trying to get a top shelf item with her cane. When she unsuccessfully tried to get the item another lady came along and was watching her. The lady in the scooter asked the lady if she would be so kind as to help her and the lady responded by telling the woman to get up off her fat bumm and get it herself and walked away. I cannot ever remember such rudeness in all my life. Geesh!

What is the rudest thing you have witnessed in a public situation?

I went to a high end high school.  No one liked us that much.  I would go to games and cheer for my school every once in awhile I would come across someone who would want me to cheer for the other side.  I went to a Jr hockey meet once, to cheer my sister on.  I sat down next to a person with my gear on.  She had enough guts to tell me that she wanted me to cheer for her daughter's team, the other side.  I turned to her and sported my shirt.  Just then my sister did something really cool,  I yelled "I love you sis"  she looked at me and realized that she had no hope of getting me to cheer for the other side.

Now that is rude! And then treated you like you were the one in the wrong! Unbelievable.

We have a lot of road rage here, but mostly old people who don't realize they are going 10 mile an hour under the speed limit! And you had to be somewhere 15 minutes ago! And ya don't react anyway or someone will shoot ya! lol

I live in Southern California, so road rage is a daily event. It's amazing how crazy people can be.

I used to work at the service deli at a local grocery store and would get plenty of rude customers. People cutting in line, thinking they had a right to get served next. People on their phone while in line holding everyone else up. The lady on the phone, when I asked her what I could get for her, held a finger up to me to be quiet and she'd talk to me in a min. really?? Then I asked the next person in line to come up to order, and the lady on the phone get mad and wanted to talk to my manager. wow. People these days...

What I can't understand is the teenagers. Some of them are so incredibly rude! I was taught when I was growing up to respect my elders. I see so many of them parking as close as they can at the stores taking the spots away from older people. They rush in front of the older people to get into the store. And I don't know how many times I've had to walk around a group of kids because they will not move out of the way. I never see them ask someone if they would like to go before them when the person behind them has just one thing to pay for. What are some parents teaching, or better yet, not teaching their children?

Ok, this is more STUPID than rude, but I just read the Paris Hilton thread and it made me think of this.

THis summer I was at the beach for a bachelorette weekend, and after going out one night we got on the "drunk bus" to ride back to our hotel.  It was standing-room only,  VERY crowded, and this girl near me takes out a joint from her purse, lights it, and starts passing it around!  The bus driver says, "I smell marijuana.."  and of course the whole bus cheers (idiots, smh).  Then she pulls out a marijuana pipe, even though the bus driver had just said he was calling the cops!!!

BTW, our group asked if we could get off the bus immediately; several of us are teachers and we wanted NO PARTS of that whole situation, LOL!  What an idiot!

LosingMyMindinGA, I think I would have turned to that woman and sweetly smiled at her and said something like "I've been told patience is a virtue. Thank you so much for your patience." Dripping with syrup, of course, all the while smiling serenly. Then of course, saying "God bless you!"

I've witnessed a lot of rude behavior in grocery and department stores.  Just yesterday I was at Kroger and was using some of my WIC checks.  Of course this always gets "looks" from the uppity old ladies who think you're just some welfare recipient hoodlum.  That couldn't be farther from the truth.  We only receive WIC becuase I feel my husband pays out the nose in taxes and if we qualify for it why shouldn't we get some benefit from his hard earned money.  Anyway...I had 3 checks I was using, had all my items seperated to make it faster and easier etc.  Well the cashier got confused, apparently she was fairly new, so it took awhile for her to get things going.  By the time we got to the last check (and I still had the stuff I was paying debit for) the old biddy behind me gets really close and leans over the conveyor belt and says "do I need to get in another line?"  The cashier and I both ignored her, well she said it again.  I just looked at her like "WTF do you think you are?"  I HAD to keep my mouth shut though becuase I KNEW as soon as I opened a whole slew of not-so-nice things would have flown out and not only would that old witch have been put in her place but my kids would have heard it as well, not to mention I probably would have been kicked outta the store.

It amazes me just how ignorant people can be.

Another example...more along the lines of stupidy than rudeness but could qualify for both.  Right after my youngest was born, he was probably 5 months old, we had gone to Target and DH was carrying him as we were talking across the parking lot.  This lady, yapping away on her phone, comes driving down the isle and literally bumps into DH with her car.  We both turn around and give her a shocked look and say a few not so nice things...The woman just threw her hand up at US like WE had done something wrong.  (She had stopped and was looking at us, we assumed she was waiting for us to cross)  Then she just drove off...no apology, not nothing.  Like WE had inconvenienced HER.  She's lucky she DID drive off before DH or I snatched her outta her car and commenced to beating the tar outta her.

There is no reason I can think of for the rudeness shown in the posts above, but I have times where I'm not so patient, like when a customer and check out girl are just chatting away, holding up the line and I'm shaking from pain, just wanting to get out and into the car. When I see people who are acting out in anger or driving crazy, I try to think about what they might be going threw. Were they just told their child was in an accident? Did they just catch their spouse cheating?
Yes, some people are just rude because they're a-holes, but sometimes something may be happening in their life, that's over-powering their sensibilities. And sometimes they need to be reminded (like adgal did), that they are not the only people in this world.

I have read of a few incidents in our city where road rage has turned violent and someone has actually been stabbed.  All because someone cut someone off or something...it's incredible. I have to wonder what is going through some peoples heads.  It's just crazy now...

We especially seem to see this with people behind the wheel. Road rage is rampant. I try to stay away from crazy drivers, lol.

Why are we in so much of hurry to be upset by having wait 30 seconds longer?

There are a lot of awfully rude people out there.  I am shocked on a fairly regular basis.  However, one incident that happened just the other day stands out.

My mom and I were shopping and she wanted to pay for her purchases using debit.  There weren't too many cashiers on, so there was a bit of a line up.  My mom is slowly losing her vision, so sometimes it takes her a bit longer to use debit..not so long as to really hold things up, but a bit longer.  If I offer to help she feels embarressed, and i don't blame her. She very much values her independence. Anyway, she got through the pin no. etc. when all of a sudden the machine just voided.  Some sort of technical glitch.  The cashier had to re ring everything through...so on top of it taking my mom a few seconds longer, now this.  There was a young women in line behind her who starting huffing very loudly.  She also started crowding my mom, almost trying to force her to hurry up.  My mom was getting flustered and I could tell she was super embarressed.  So I basically told this women that she was rude, and could she please step back a bit as she wasn't helping the situation.  I guess my tone was not pleasant as she shut up and did it.  I hate bullies!!!  And that is exactly what this women was.  What a nasty nasty person.
