Now that the leaves have mostly fallen

Who here is guilty of kicking up leaves when walking down the sidewalk? Any leaf collecters here?

I seem to make it my tradition to do both.  I like to collect at least one pure yellow maple leaf, one flaming red leaf, a couple two toned orange/yellow leaves, a brown oak leaf, and whatever else catches the eye.

This year I teased the cats. (Picture coming soon.)

Kicking up leaves, piling them high and jumping in them, collecting them... guilty as charged.

I picked up one of the tinyest maple leaves one year that had turned the most beautiful ocre red, it was maybe only 1 and a half inches across at the most but perfect in every way. It stayed on my kitchen counter for over a year until I moved.

I left it there for the new occupant. Wonder if they thought of it as being so perfectly beautiful too?

Jan,

Remember when we used to make the placemats when we were kids in Girl Scouts?  That was always fun.  The trees at Skyline Drive were Sugar Maples. Dave and I went up to Catoctin Mountain on the Motorcyles 2 weeks ago to watch things change.  It was just as I remembered when we were kids camping. You would have like it.

Yes, it takes you back to childhood in a hearbeat.  There were some beautiful leaves in the Shenandoah Valley that were a champagne color and when the wind whipped it looked like little bubbles all over the tree.  Wish I knew what kind of tree it was.  Oh, Birches are beautiful in the first morning sun.  Glorius.  I was marveling at the leaves outside the place where I get my bloodwork done and my husband urged me along (we were late) and told me that the trees at our house were beautiful, but I haven't even seen them, but I bought some wax paper and I am going to make wax paper placemats.  It may be my last year to do it and I thought it would be fun.
