Fibroid growth with 50

I am 50, with heavy but timely menstrual bleedings. In January my doctor made an ultrasound and I had an endometrium  of 11 mm even after my period and a big fiborid (7 cm). I had an endometirum biopsy which was negative and started to take a progesterone only pill 3 weeks ago. Since then everything became just worse. I started to bleed more havely than I normally do after taking the pill for two weeks and my fibroids grew 2 cm-s since January. Cab fibroids grow so much in two months? Can it be becasue of the progesterone only pill?

I have read that estrogen and progesterone can make fibroids grow. But it is also common for them to have a growth spurt shortly before menopause. Being that you are 50 hopefully menopause is around the corner and this will all soon be behind you. One option to address the heavy bleeding is a non-hormonal prescription drug called Lysteda (tranexamic acid). Paramedics keep it on hand just for that reason. Prescription strength NSAID's are another option. Here is a list of all pharmaceutical options for heavy menstrual bleeding - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0015970/table/ch8.t1/?report=objectonly.
