Perimenopausal body changes of concern

I am 48 year old and have been experiencing perimenopausal symtoms for about 6 years now.  My first problems began with increased mentrual flow that was so bad I quite literally could not leave the house.  I was bleeding so heavy that I became anemick ( sorry for the misspellings).  I sought help from a women's health clinic and was placed on low dose birth control for the heavy bleeding.  While this did help to alleviate the heavy bleeding I was concerned that I would never know when I was in menopause b/c as long as I was taking the pill, I would continue to have periods.  I attempted to stop taking the pill and the heavy periods began all over again.  I opted for uterian ablasion in hopes of completely stopping or greatly diminishing my monthly flow.

While I can not say that I have greatly diminished flow, it is probably what is was when I was taking the pill but I am still having a period :-(

All that said, during this ordeal I developed a lump in my left breast which after a mamogram was determined to be a cyst and left to hope it would shrink on its own and go away.  It did not shrink but got larger.  Still after another mamogram I was told that it was benign and nothing needed to be done.  The cyst began to retain fluid and I could no longer tolerate the discomfort that this caused.  After consulting with my Dr. I was referred to another Dr to asperaite the cyst.  This was perhaps 3 to 4 months ago.

Now I am on to a new adventure of having swelling in (what I believe to be nodes) under my arm on the same side as the breast with the cyst.  In separate occations I had two nodes swell and then shrink.  At first it was hard to tell that the swelling was actually in a node b/c it was very slight.  I thought it was a razor nick and irritated skin pore and/or hair folicle.  That gradually went away and the second node began to swell.  This time it was more pronounced and I was more convinced that this was not an irritated folicle.  I could actually feel the lump that told me otherwise.  The lump had some discomfort due to the swelling.  The swelling gradually receded and behold, my period began.

Can you help me understand what is going on?  I have never experienced symptoms like this before but I guess this what aging is all about.  Another day, another mystery with our bodies.  Please help me shed some light on this new experience.
