thank you for your reply. as for the actual procedure I am not concerned with the scope. And I don't really care who is in the room at the time of the procedure. The part the I don't like is having my wife or anyone else waiting on me to drive me home. I had an enlarged lyphnode removed from my neck a couple of years ago. I elected to have that done in the operating room but with only a local anesthetic for the purpose of just going in myself and when the procedure was done leaving myself without tieing up another one elses time waiting on me.
In my view, using anesthesia with a colonoscopy is the way to go. There is little risk as with any medical procedure. Once it is over, nothing is remembered about the actual procedure, and you should not have to have another one for ten years, unless something is found. There is no one else in the procedure room except the doctor and medical assistants. Your wife or whoever is driving you home will stay in a waiting room.
Why is this procedure considered risky? Any of the propaganda on the subject of a "routine" colonoscopy states that the worst part is the preparation. I would think the risk of a perforated bowel would exist whether under anesthesia or not.
No doctor will do it. It is a risky affair. If you are worried, stay in a hospital for a day or so. If something happens to you , doctor will be penalized and will have to go to prison. They have few protocols to follow. This is comopusory for them. You will not know what can happen. Your will power does not help.
