faint vibrating/buzzing/spasm in penis

For the last week or so now I have had a very slight, high-frequency vibrating sensation in my penis (it feels like it is in my urethra, from about the base of the glans to the base of the penis).  It feels like varying degrees of the following sensations:

- a cellphone vibrating in my pocket
- a stream of fluid flowing through the urethra (without the sensation of exiting the glans)

It is not usually constant, but is rhythmic, that is, will come and go in intervals...  much like a pulse or breathing, but it does not coincide with either.  The rhythm varies, sometimes 1 second on and 1 second off; sometimes a few seconds of vibrations and a few second of stillness, and sometimes the vibrations are more constant, with slight variances in intensity (though always low intensity).  It is neither painful nor pleasurable but is annoying.  It is not associated with any other symptoms whatsoever: no discharges or skin, urine, or semen discolorations; no changes in consistency of urine, semen, or stool; no direct decrease in sexual function, although I am concerned that my worrying about it will decrease my ability to perform.  The sensation is so slight that it is not noticeable when I am occupied with other activities, but it consumes me when I am still.

STDs are unlikely, as both my wife and I have never had any sexual partners other than each other.  I have experinced no trauma to my penis, groin, or other structures that I am aware of.  I am 30 years old, with no history of medical issues at all...  no UTI, STD, PNE, nothing.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Well, I had the same issue recently. Happened the day after having sex with my wife. At first it was a strong vibration and then has tapered on and off since and is much less then it was. It's not constant but comes and goes and is on the right hand of the shaft. Went to the doctor and he was stumped but thinks it is nerve related. He did say it should taper off as time goes on and if it is improving to focus on that. Doctor also took a urine test and also came back negative as well as blood work. I then went to a urologist and he prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3 times a day for a month which is nerve medication. He didn't seem to be phased by what I described. In the meantime I've been taking magnesium and B12 which seems to have helped also. The good news is its gotten better. I do not think it permanent. And it was because I was too aggressive in the bedroom LOL.

Update: It's been about 2 months of me dealing with this. I wanted to add on what I've already talked about. I went and had an MRI. Turns out my L4 was slightly bulging and could be pressing on the nerve that goes to the penis. Rest of my spine looks normal. My spine doctor whose also a neurologist, told me to get another test which is called EMG LE. It's a more aggressive test then the smaller one they do. Nothing was abnormal. The neurologist who performed that test doesn't think its coming from my spine but think its something localized, meaning this all still goes back to having aggressive sex with my wife and I could have injured something while in the act. Doctor thinks it might have something to do with the pudendal nerve. Both neurologists have said that nerves take a while to heal, roughly 6 months. I am awaiting to hear back from the spine / neurologist about further treatment. As of now its still Gabapentin and Lidocaine patches. The patches seem to calm down the vibration sensation. The patches are placed on my back not my penis......please do not put them on your penis. Also, FYI I am in no pain. It's just a very light buzzing feeling. Usually occurs when I sit. The good news is IT'S slowly getting better. VERY slowly. I am also going to add in more stretches for that area. Please look up pudendal nerve stretches on google as well. I'll be adding in more as time goes on.
good news, thank you for sharing.
When I had an appendectomy years ago, afterward a big surface area of my skin near the incision was totally numb. I asked the doctor about it, and he said, "Oh, we probably cut a skin nerve. It'll heal in about a year." I was surprised that he was so ho-hum about it, but I guess nerves just take a while to heal. And it did heal, bit by bit, over the course of many months. So if your doc says it will get better, believe him. Glad you and your wife got a romp out of it, sorry it produced such an irritating symptom.
I have been experiencing this myself. I read your comment and straightened my spine and it got better immediately
I have the same symptoms,  started 3 days ago and seems like its happening more and more??? I have never heard of it...
JeffKK, start your own thread and we'll discuss!
It's a rare thing because it's a nerve issue. Be patient. I was going to book an appointment with a pelvic floor specialist but it became pretty much nothing. Let a neurologist run all the tests they want to perform to rule out anything else. But a neurologist will be the one to help you. Worst case they will run a CT scan in your pelvic region to find the answer. Mine its super faint when it comes back, but it lasts for a couple minutes and then its gone. Take magnesium and B12 and do pelvic exercises. The neurologist says for me it was acute and will go anywhere from 6 months to 12 months. There are plenty of medications and even nerve blocks for this. Do not worry it will get better. IN TIME. Nerves issues take a WHILE to settle down.

I think we're still talking about tingling or buzzing sensations in one's testicles, right? I experienced those from time to time over many years and they always seem to take place before I come down with some illness -- like the buzzing may be part of the body's fighting the illness? I've always wondered about this.

Update: I went to the doctor 2 days ago. They tested my urine and it came back normal, I don't have a UTI or any other infection detectable by urine sample. However, they recommended I see a Urologist which I'm going to do on May 20th.

My symptoms haven't changed, other than I have been having to urinate more frequently like 5-6 times a day, and despite feeling the need to urinate not much comes out. I feel like this is mainly me psyching myself out.

I have also notice 4 triggers
- Orgasm (Which I haven't done in days)
- Urination
- Extended Periods of Walking
- Vibrations (For example, when I play my guitar for a period of time, or riding in a car)

This started happening to me about 4 days ago. I'm 21 and, to my knowledge, relatively healthy. The cell-phone like vibration first appeared after an orgasm. it lasted maybe 4 or 5 minutes afterwards, but I didn't think much of it, I thought maybe I just pinched a nerve or something. But then I notice it also happens when I urinate. Urinating isn't painful, it just triggers the vibrations for a minute or so afterwards. I am also a musician, and last night I played a gig, the vibrations from my guitar seemed to trigger it as well. I'm kind of freaking out and embarrassed about this...

To tell you a little more about it these sensations, which can be either slightly painful or enjoyable, are induced to use it as means for "stick and carrot" conditioning. These sensations can be triggered by actions, thoughts, feelings. For example if you listened to some "feminisation" hypnosis and have a vibration when you sit down, it can mean that the hypnotist installed a trigger in you that makes you feel the vibe when you sit down. Or it can have to do with using your computer etc.

And this sh*t is all over the internet. Like I said it can be in every single audio track that you listen on the internet. And the reason why this is so is simple. Due to an increasing number of people who seem to understand video and audio manipulation better and better nowadays, they adjust their means of manipulation so there you go.

You can laugh now and call it conspiracy theory or you can just look for some hypnosis vids on youtube and test a little bit what happens to you and then try and be aware when you watch or listen some other stuff and feel the same things.

It won't be easy to grasp this but Ima try anyway. I know the reason for the issue you guys are having.

Such sensations can be induced by hypnotists audiorecordings nowadays. Which means it can be done through audiostimulation, which can not be perceived unless you are intimately familiar with the feeling already. So there are several possiblilities for why you might have this:
1) You have been listening to hypnosis sessions, that use that kind of technology.
2) You have been listening to other audio, which can be in music, vids, or other media on tv, internet, or radio. As far as I know the effect can be only induced when listening with stereo headphones.

Hey man this makes sense and this is what has been happening to me everyday for the last 9-10 years. It’s a pleasurable feeling that flows through my penis that I can self induce and/or can be triggered by thoughts, feelings and touch/pressure. I have to try very hard to prevent it from happening, and although I don’t think it has any negative effects, I’m pretty sure it’s not normal. Even if I try my hardest to get rid of it, the longest I can usually go is until nighttime, and one way or another it will occur without me wanting it.

Do you know how to get rid of it?? I’ve searched this thing/feeling up many times and can’t find anything about it. I would appreciate it so much if you knew anything that can help.

Penis vibration mostly cured.  Just want to thank everyone for their posts.  I thought I was dying.  Maybe I had brain, spinal, or penile cancer. Reading your posts I believe saved me a lot of wasted time and medical examination costs.   I am a firm believer in doctors but again think I have cured myself so I wanted to pass this on as soon as I could.  I have had significant and growing vibrations near the end of my penis for 2 weeks now and the severity is starting to impact my daily life. Reading that some of us have suffered for more than a year really made me think that all hope was lost.  Then last night I did something to change that.  I have reduced these vibrations in one day by what I would estimate to be 75% and am hopeful it will go back to normal before the vibrations started.  Why I think what I did works is based on the fact that men have the prostatic uricle where women have the uterus. These vibrations we are all feeling are what I believe to be contractions.  One thing I didn’t think of until recently is I hadn’t had any type of sex for a few weeks.  That is unusual as I typically have it once  a week with my wife and 2-3 times a week solo.  I believe something was stuck/backed up as a result of this change. The vibrations are the body’s way of clearing out this obstruction.  Again, just a theory.  What I did?  Need to masturbate (2nd time is where I saw the benefits) and when you are climaxing need to continue to work where in the past you may have just relaxed and enjoyed the moment.  It is almost painful at the very last moment.  It’s not painful because you are pulling so hard but just because of the intensity and I think the pain you are feeling is the obstruction being removed.  I had immediate decrease in symptoms afterwards.  Good luck!

I too have the symptoms of the vibration like a phantom cell phone at the tip of my penis. It's been about a week and a half and sometimes it's 3 secs every 5mins and other times it's 3secs every 4 or 5 secs. It comes and goes, but knowing others have the issue as well make me believe it is nothing.

I do sit in a chair in front of a computer for 8hrs a day and I sit at home in front of a computer for 3 or 4 after working overnights. I don't masturbate and the wife and I have sex 2 or 3 times a week. I first noticed this right after a huge fight her and I got into. We had sex 5 times in a day and a half afterward.

I'd say 2 days later it started and hasn't subsided. I was about to call a urologist, but it sounds like it's common. I am a type-1 diabetic, but that doesn't seem to be the reason for it either. Thanks for this discussion.

Hi, the reason why you're having this is probably because of prostatitis particular if you're feeling it in your scrotum.  I've had mine for a year and a half now...Only been diagnosed 5 months ago..I got it from excessive masturbation...100% sure...It's more manageable now but I still have it. Sitting makes it worse so I've been sitting on a "prostate" pillow at work. Medication doesn't work if you have chronic non bacterial prostatitis which is what I have. Was taking "cipro" but had to stop, side affects are terrible. Tried chinese herbs - they help a little bit but it feels like for as long as I masturbate even if done occasionally, it'll never go away..in my case anyway. All I can advise is try not to sit at all if possible or get a special pillow like I did and cut down on sex/masturbation if that's what caused it in the first place. Good luck!

Hello everyone - I'm happy to have found this!

I had this exact issue for about a week. Incredibly annoying. I tried magnesium, stretches and a hot bath with no help. Then... I remembered a mobility routine that included work on the piriformis.

Last night I foam rolled my lower back and piriformis... and no more buzzing!

Exercise looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17Tn7wWvr7U

I had a heavy workout today, after which I rolled everything out and I'm happy to report it's all buzz-free.

Try it with a tennis ball, or foam roller. Hope this helps!

I have this problem--is there a YouTube video where you could demo this stretch?  I'm not sure I am grasping the stretching technique.

Thanks!

I have read lots of the replies and frankly I am going to ignore most of them, I have also had Chronic Prostatitis on and off for over 25 years but never had a vibration in the penis from it.

I have been masturbating my penis for over 57 years and notice that if I do it to much I get the vibrations in my penis, it comes and goes but only when I have been masturbating a lot.

I would suggest that when you get the penis vibration give masturbation a miss for a few days, maybe masturbate less and enjoy it more with less stimulation.

Im so glad i found this forum, i was kinda losing it yesterday when this stated happening.

Im 23, years old, first noticed it yesterday after i masturbated, i also saw at least 2 other people mention that is when they first noticed it as well. I took the time to read most of this thread, i have tried the hot bath today. Hoping that will help over the course of this week. I am not on any medication, i dont do drugs, i drink on weekends but i cant see any correlation there.

I also saw some posts about magnesium cream of sorts, also just taking the actual supplement in doses which lessens muscle spasms etc.

I havent made any Doc Appts yet, if it worsens i will, but its pain free, its most of a an annoyance factor than anything. Mostly when im sitting down or laying down, sometimes while standing up but barely. Anyway, if anyone has any other information it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, I really appreciate your posts on this issue. The "vibrating penis" just started happening to me last night. In light of what you have learned, my question is this : do you think this could possibly be caused by severe constipation possibly putting pressure on a nerve? I have been on Suboxone 8/2 @ 16mg a day for about 6 years. I battle constipation regularly.
Last night my wife and I were having sex, I was on my back (forgive the details but I thought them important) and I kept feeling a stabbing pain in my right abdomen, about two inches above where the testicle ascends to during ejaculation. I have also had a hernia repair on that side much earlier this year (around springtime 2013) and had only mild problems of inflamation and hard clotting around the epididymis and ductus deferens wich went away slowly over a couple  of months - my hernia was VERY large and I had been livimg with it for about 30 years (since about 3 or 4 years old).
Thanks!

I just wanted to add my experience regarding this condition since I am in the middle of it, as we speak.  The one variation I can add is that my problem has increased since I had a prostate exam three weeks ago that require the physician to press firmly on the prostate six times prior to my urinating.  It's for a test they send off to Michigan University to detect the presence of certain genes.  Since that time, the vibration sensation has been very active.  Again, not sure what can reduce it, at this point, but am taking some of the ideas here and using them going forward.

This is defiantly from the nerves in your spine. I have a spinal injury that effected my spine between the s2 and s4  and have this same problem. I highly recommend an MRI to see if you may be getting arthritis  or sciatica or even scoliosis. I have bulges in 2 disks and a tear in another. See your doctor and get their advice to remedy this problem. This could lead to even more painful and possibly permanent problems if not taken care of!
