Basically you were reducing way too quick a drop....reducing by 10mls at a time is going to feel like hell, and i'm sure it was by the sounds of it.
I was on 90mls methadone 2 1/2 years ago. After a couple months I started reducing by 5mls every two weeks until I got to about 55mls. Then I dropped by 2mls every two weeks. I am finally going off methadone - cold turkey now, the day before yesterday was my last methadone dose of 2.5mls. And even me dropping by 2mls every 2 weeks I had pains and aches etc etc. DON'T drop it too quick, you're putting yourself in unnecessay pain. Just take it easy. And DON'T substitute one addiction for another i.e. start replacing methadone with another addictive-prescription drug from the doctor, or even using on top of methadone to ease the pain of withdrawing, as you are only making your withdrawal and treatment last alot longer.
Before I was on anti-depressants as well as methadone, and when I tried to reduce my methadone the pain was horrendous. Then when I came off the anti-depressants (amytriptyline) when I reduced my methadone dosage the pain wasn't anywhere near as bad!! So try not to take any other medication ontop of methadone....it just makes the withdrawals un-bare-able.
Here is an article on the best way to taper your methadone dosage:
