3am migraines

For the past 2 years I go to bed without a headache. I sleep about 4 hrs and then the rest of the night I wake up and go to sleep several times.  Nightly I get hit with a most painful migraine about 3-4am. I have to take my migraine med. I don't drink alcohol, my diet is close to pure, i exercise.  I've had migraines all my life but the early am are a new type.  Can you suggest what could be causing this early morning migraines. I do not have an endless supply of meds and they are playing hell with my energy and moods.  Thank u. js

I do recall reading an article about early morning (4:00 A.M.) headache/migraine cycles.  The article suggested that, if my memory serves me right, our bodily hormonal cycles begin releasing a type of chemical to begin the awakening process.  I can't remember if it was related to the thyroid or the thalmus however.  If I can find it I will post the title here.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How are you? Are there other symptoms present? Are there other symptoms present?  Do you get relief also from your migraine headaches during this time? According to some literature, migraines may follow a time clock and may be associated with the hypothalamus  in the brain. A headache journal or the headache tracker here in the forum may help identify possible triggers that you can avoid especially at night. If it persists, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and regards.
