4 years of headaches

I had temperal arteritise about four years ago with the headache that goes with it.  The temperal arteritise has gone but I have lived with the headaches every since.  The doctors can't seem to find an answer for it and the just keep getting to be more intence.  I had a CT about 2 1/2 years ago and nothing showed also have had a petscan.  What other things can I try?  The headaches don't stop at all (night or day) and pain pills don't stop it or slow it even.

Can you have temporal arthritis with a normal sed rate? My husband has had every test and scan known to man (to my knowledge). He has had a headache in his temples for 13 years. He looks terrible. He is 45 yrs old, 6'2" and 200 lbs. Another symptom he complains about is joint aches and fatigue. He literally falls asleep in an instant if he lays down. However, I know the pain wears him out. I've noticed unusual sleep behaviors for example; he does alot of twitching and squeezing of his hands. He does feel releif in his head if he applies pressure to his temples and in a lying position. I've asked about CSF disorders. Out of all 6 neurologists he's seen they all do the same thing and load him up with seizure meds to try and control the pain. The side effects drove him crazy and they didn't stop the pain. He has also tried accupuncture and herbal medicines and teas. If you have ANY suggestions at all I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you both for taking time to answer my questions and thoughts.

I will check out the sites Dr Santos gave me, thanks again.

bert_bertany-thank you for sharing with me what has happened to you although it would have been better if you didn't have to through all that.  If you find that "magic pill" I would be glad to hear about it!!

Glad to hear from you both.

I know what it is like to have a sever headache every day for over 4 years. I had a brain tumor that hemorrhaged so they had to remove it and I have had a headache every since the day of the bleed. I go to several different headache clinics with no results nothing they do makes it go away. :( It can be depressing at times.  The only thing I have noticed that helps me is when I have pain else where it kind of helps me not focus on the hammer and nails in my head. They need to make a "magic pill"!!!! That cures everything!

Hi,
The National Center for complementary and alternative medicine by the National Institutes of Health is a very good site to visit. You can read more about biofeedback with this link: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002241.htm
Discuss this also  with your doctor for proper management. Take care always.

Hi,
Thanks for the update. You  could also try complementary and alternative medicine such as biofeedback therapy and other relaxation techniques at this time to control your symptoms, especially if your next appointment is still next month. An MRI could indeed be very helpful in ruling out anatomical issues. Take care always.

Hi
Thank you for the information and suggestions.

I am not on any medications because we haven't found one that will work.  The temporal artenitis was shown as clear with last CT scan unless it came back.  I don't know if that is something that may be possible or not!?  I will be asking my Doctor about a possible MRI to see if anything shows up (will see him the middle of March).

Hi,
How are you? Temporal Arteritis is caused by inflammation of the temporal arteries and is usually confirmed by biopsy. The cause is unknown but it is possible that it is due to immune disorder. Prescription medications may help. If your present medications are not helping, inform your doctor about this for proper manageemnt. If the CT scan was done two years ago, additional diagnostic tests such as MRI may also be done.  Take care and do keep us posted.

Thank you for responding.

I have a appointment with my Doctor  the first of next month and was looking for some questions I could ask him.  I need releive so I can get on with life.  It is at a point that I can't drive or don't dare to because I fall asleep or get to the point that everything is blury.  Evern  to do every day house work is really hard.

Do you still have the headaches?  If you have 17 years with them I can really understand what its like.

Welcome to the site and to the community. You have come to a place where people are very supportive and have a lot of information.
I would like to point out that as the information on your left says, this is only my personal advice and you should always consult a doctor with problems first. Also, while it is
understandable to want information or advice about medication/s you should never alter or stop without speaking to the prescribing doctor first.
The advice I give is from personal knowledge and or experience, this does not mean I am a health professional or that my advice should be
taken over a health professionals. If I am not able to help, rest assured there will probably be more people to help. This post is mainly for basic
information and to let you know that while I do not have any advice for you, it is worth it to stick around.
