Acute Migraine's a New Medication Available Soon

I've had migraines on and off for many years.  From debilitating to annoying, they have plagued me.  There are, of course, many types of migraines but when one comes on in short order, we want relief.  If we are prone to them, having something to turn to is important.  Even just for the psychology of it, for me anyway.  Typical medications aren't a great option for me as I'm also prone to raises in blood pressure.  So, I generally have been left to cope.  I read this article about something new coming our way--  the collective group of those who suffer migraines.  It's a novel class of drugs. The class of drug is called geplants.  It "stops head pain by blocking the receptor for calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), a small protein that the body releases during migraine episodes."  I don't fully understand what that means. But it will be a drug that can be taken for those with other medical conditions or on other medications which there haven't been a lot of options for.  They are currently finishing Phase III trials but it's exciting to have more options for a chronic condition coming soon. Here's the article on it.  https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325739.php

Ohh that's exciting. Imitrex gave me some really strange side effects, and other triptans didn't work. I've been using midrin, an old medication, and it doesn't always work.

I'd love a new option to try. It sounds like it might have a ways to go, but anything new is promising.
