Am i having migranes or just headaches?

Ive been having content headaches now for the past week, and they have been so painful ive nearly been in tears. Ive had to go through school days with it and having to wait 6 hours to treat it, but they dont come at the same time, sometimes its near the end of the day, and sometimes its as early as 10. Its a constent acheing and i want to go to the doctors, but i want to have a general idea of what it may be first.

My mum says its because i spend to much time on the laptop, and my diet < i eat no fruit or veg, but thats a long story, and lately ive not been on my laptop because ive been side tracked alot yet i still get them. Its really affecting my learning because im to busy thinking about the pain im losing concentration, so i want to get it sorted before i start falling behind.

Thankyou:)!

yeah, stop taking the painkillers for a couple of days, and just bare with the pain. I'm not saying that you can *never* take painkillers, but try to limit it to ~3 days a week.

happy to help,

It sounds like it could be a stress induced migraine. But that's my unprofessional opinion. I'd STRONGLY suggest that you see a doc sooner rather than later, just to make sure that you're not missing something more serious.

6 exams in one month is a really hard class load. Can you go talk to your teachers/profs (I don't know what level of schooling you're at) and ask for some help with the material? If you understand what you're going to be tested on, maybe some of your stress will be reduced.

One word of caution: DON'T go taking lots of OTC painkillers. I know that that doesn't sound like good advice, but believe me, it's very important. If you take painkillers for a long period of time, you stand a chance of getting rebound headaches, and then the painkillers will actually *trigger* pain, rather than helping to get rid of it.

Good luck,

Thanks for replying so quickly:)
Its a trobbing sharp pain filling around the top around my head.

Im under quite abit of stress at school, i have 6 exams coming up in 1 month, and ive been finding it hard keeping up and understanding, due to the pain and the general fact i dont understand, so that builds on it, and thats making me fall behind, which is adding to everything and just making me panic.

Thank you

what kind of symptoms are you having? Is the pain sharp, throbbing, tender, etc.? Migraines and headaches are not mutually exclusive, but not the same thing. I can't really tell you if you're having migraines without more info.

I spend most of my awake time on the computer, and don't get a worse migraine from it, but that's just me. It really happens on a case to case basis.

How much stress are you under in school, before and now that you're falling behind? Stress is a MAJOR trigger. You might want to check out the headache/migraine tracker here on MedHelp to see if you can identify any triggers.

Hope you feel better,
