Headaches for the last month

A month ago I had a migraine. I get them infrequently, it was the first one for about three years. I was off work for a day and a half, and when I returned still had the migraine hangover, which is normal for me. However a week later I still was getting these dull headaches. I went to a doctor and have since had a CT scan and a MRI, both of which were normal. However I have now been having the headaches for about a month, it comes and goes and seems to be worse in the morning, and disrupts concentration. Occasionally I have momentary feeling of dizziness. At this point the doctor has just said come back in a couple of weeks if still occurring. Has anyone experienced anything like this after a migraine? The doctors have said it is likely just an atypical migraine, but I have never experienced headaches for this long a period and it is quite worrying, I tend to get bad anxiety at the best of times and this is making it worse. The only medication I am on is a statin which is to control cholesterol, which has been a long term problem for me since I was about 20 (I am 49 now). I have read this medication can cause headaches but I have been on it for a long while without issues. However I stopped taking it for two weeks with no improvement and have since resumed taking it. Any suggestions or advice much appreciated. Thanks.

First thing is to rule out other causes than just "migraine". How's your blood pressure? Do you notice any of the symptoms at different times, like standing up from a sitting position, or getting out of bed in the morning or after a nap?

Have you had any recent blood work? How's your weight? Are you at risk for diabetes?

The good news is that you've had both the CT and the MRI. What one misses, the other will catch, so you can be reassured that you don't have anything serious, like a tumor or brain cancer, etc.

I agree that getting headaches from your statin after so long would be unusual.

If everything medical can be ruled out, then it's time to see a neurologist for your headaches, if you haven't already. If a neuro is the one who has said it's an atypical migraine, are you talking about treatments for that?

I'm sorry you're going through this. Migraines suck.

Thanks for your comment friend. My blood pressure was a little higher than usual so I will talk to my Doctor about that. And probably get him to refer me to a neurologist. Trouble I find with my symptoms is they are so generic, like headaches can be symptoms for a lot of things. Anyway, thanks again.
Yeah, that's the trouble with headaches and the accompanying symptoms. They are often very generic.

Keep on it, though. At the very least, get some blood work done to rule out anything, talk to your doctor about your BP, maybe change your pillow (they get nasty with dust mites after awhile), change your sheets, wash your comforter (or get it dry cleaned - whatever it calls for). Change your filter in your air conditioner, maybe try an air purifier/cleaner in your bedroom. If you live in a dry area, try a humidifier. It could be something environmental, so think of things in your bedroom or house that you might need to clean or change.

Definitely rule out any medical causes, too.

Headaches suck, not just for the pain, but at least in part because it's often such a tedious process in figuring out what's causing it. :(

It's true so I have heard that histamines can cause migraines,  or at least bring them on sometimes. So if you are allergic to anything at all, that could make it worse.
There is also a low-histamine diet if needed.
